I was in the audience, with a co-worker, for the first episode of King of Queen. A long day, 10:00 to 19:00.

Shortly after we got home, there was a bad snow storm that dumbed 12" of wet snow. After cleaning the driveway, I told my wife that people would die of heart attack from shovelling. The next day I find out that my co-worker made the statistic. RIP Bob.

...when you go to Costco and get in during senior hour, and then;

you go the hearing aid department for your hearing test to determine how much worse your hearing jas gotten since your last test, a test that was taken I can't remember how long ago, and then;

the staff member walks up to you in the waiting area and starts talking to you in a quiet voice and you can't hear them, well, because you can't frigging hear, and then;

you are checking out new hearing aids out on your iPhone while you are waiting but you have to put your reading glasses on because the screen is too blurry to read.

You may get off my lawn now!

When I was young I always had a stereo with big speakers and listened to my music loud, and always wondered when I got old if I would be hard of hearing because of it.

Well I am old(er) now and I think my hearing is still crisp and clear so I guess I didn't do any damage.

My wife, who is the same age as me, 66, does not seem to be able to hear as good as me. Hope that my loud music, which, as I said, didn't affect my hearing, didn't cause any problems for her.

Hopefully it's just because we're two different people and have grown old differently (sweet ol' woman that she is).

If I remember correctly, I am a few years younger than you, so I will back off your lawn now. But anybody younger than me better keep off! lol

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

My hearing loss is probably partly hereditary and the fact that I was in a band as a teenager. We played too loud. Lot's of concerts too. With hearing aids, I do pretty well in most situations so it's not that debilitating. More of a nuisance.

I do remember you mentioning that you've been married for a long time. Good for you. It's not for everybody but if you find the right person its very special indeed.

You are invited to share a corner of my lawn as long as you pull the weeds and keep it watered! Gaucho Marx once said (you know your old if you know who he was), "Getting old is something you get to do if you're lucky".

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too. All the best!

Haha, no thank you. I have my own lawn to tend to.

My hearing loss was due to all of the above (loud music, playing in a band, being around loud stuff like cars and huge industrial machines) but mostly stems from a childhood riddled with ear infections, treated by a doctor who got his degree in the late 1800's. I've worn hearing aids since 1990, when I was decidedly not qualified to post in this thread.

How are the hearing aids of today working for you?

Honestly they're pretty cool. Bunch of tech in them these days. Phone calls go right into my ears, music too. Lots of features and controls when synced to a smartphone. But I'd still rather not need them.

What brand are they? You may have said in an earlier thread and I missed it.

Mine are Signia, used to be called Siemens before they spun off a new brand for their HA line. There are competitors with similar feature sets. I like Siemens because they really do test them for moisture resistance.

I bought a set of Phonak's a year ago and I love them. I tried to get the VA to supply me with hearing aids 7 years ago, but no joy, so I paid a premium price for my first a pair; Oticon Alta's. The Phonak's are much better.

Back to the VA: They turned me down despite the fact I served in the artillery for 12 months in Vietnam. The howitzers alone made my ears ring (which never stopped), not to mention the small arms fire. In fact, my ears roared at times, complete with temporary deafness. These incidents add up over time.

So, I have very significant high frequency losses, along with tinnitus. The Phonaks really help.

My hearing loss (30%) is also in the high freq range. And I have non-stop tinnitus. I've wondered if hearing aids would reduce the tinnitus. I suppose there is no way to know except to try them.

Then he put a blender inside, ran the cord out where the TV power cord would have been, and put a ton of booze bottles inside the TV cabinet. When the RA's came to bust him for having alcohol in his room, they went *nuts* trying to figure out where he'd hidden the booze, mixers and glasses. They knew he was drinking in his room (which was a huge thing considering the school's alcohol policy) and spent literally *hours* trying to figure it out over the course of the school year. To my knowledge, none of the RA's ever cracked the code, even after several years of effort.

I thought it was pure, unadulterated genius, in a Wyle E. Coyote sort of way.

Indeed....so when did your buddy eventually graduate, if ever?

Nice story of ingenuity though.
