I imagine you still have to caulk both ceiling and wall though, no? Otherwise that would look rather sloppy leaving one or the other loose for "expansion" reasons.

Looks good! I like the color of the walls. I've got a really dark gray in my bedroom with black accents.

so just completed 95% of the bamboo flooring in the upstairs hallway. here I completely removed the old hardwood and the old carpet on the steps down to the subflooring and removed the baseboards all around. just waiting for a couple of pieces of bull nose to be delivered to complete the steps.
removed the wooden balusters which than I sanded down the hand rails from the dark cherrywood finish and restained to a satin black finish. iron balusters came in for the top rails in the hallway and I placed another baluster order for the remaining stairs that go down. will wait to put these in as i'm waiting for the stain to dry for at least 24hrs. here are the new box newels. picked up 3 of them these will be stained satin black along with the handrails starting to tear down all the old stairs, wooden baluster, handrails and newels and replacing with new boxed style newels I picked up from Home Depot. because the treads were solid red oak boards already premade as steps when I yanked them out their were no boards underneath so I had to cut some new tread boards for the new bamboo flooring to sit on as well as the matching bamboo bull nose. I won't do the bamboo flooring on the risers as I kinda like the white risers that flow with the mouldings. new treads

if you're wondering why i'm replacing the wood flooring is because you can see the previous owner tried to redo the flooring by sanding it down and restaining it again but I can tell he had no clue what he was doing as the floor had so many divets from the floor sander from not handling it properly. on the edges it's like he left the sander on for like a minute and it sanded edge lines. also it looks like he didn't vacuum up the dust before staining as you can see a lot and feel rough texture in the stain. the 3rd picture above you can see from the reflections off the floor by the vacuum all the imperfections of not properly sanding the floor so we decided to rip it all out instead of redoing it and we always wanted bamboo flooring with a distressed look with different color variations so we chose Mushroom
edit: here's the picture and you can see the reflections off the floor

wow...great work as always.
Not sure I'd go through the trouble of replacing wood floors already in distress with distressed bamboo flooring, but keep up the good work either way |

I wont do the flooring but the flooring folks said it was an option because otherwise they'd have to rip out the tile. The doors should all open as there is a nice gap. As far as the baseboards, i reckon they'll have to redo those. But i assume this has been done plenty of times before?
It's for my entire downstairs so it's not a small area. |
