I almost bought a Rolex DSSD yesterday. It would have been my first Rolex. It was simple, yet gorgeous. While my wife and son told me to buy it countess times, all I could think about was getting more joy out of a ESS supercharger kit! Woo hoo!

My Breitling super avenger will have to do for now. Maybe next time Rolex...

I have one watch. If I had another watch for special events then it would be a skeletonized automatic. I love being able to see the working parts.

Don't buy a watch because it cost's a lot. Buy something you like. Decide what it is about a watch that is important to you.

For example, I have a Speedmaster Pro because I love the whole moon-watch heritage. I have a JLC Master Calendar because for the money, you will not find a more classic watch with extensive lineage and in house movements. I have rolex's because I can beat the hell out of them and they never skip a tick. I buy watches that fit a niche in my life while at the same time fulfill the root qualities that I admire in a good watch.

For me I am willing to pay $$ for a company with heritage and lineage and a history for pride in quality and class. I prefer watch makers that have "in house movements", meaning they design, test, manufacture, and assemble the "guts" of the watch themselves (which believe it or not can cost millions and is more and more rare these days with watch brands). You'd be surprised how many $10,000.00+ watches have ETA/Valijoux (off the shelf) movements in them, in which case you are strictly paying for the right to wear the name. (The Louis Erard uses a Valijoux).

I too like the idea of being able to buy a quality watch, make a couple of decades worth of memories with it, and then be able to hand it down to my children. For me, that sort of idea very much lends itself to the romantics of owning and wearing a quality watch.

In my opinion, if you don't want to break the bank, and want something with impeccable lineage that your son will be proud (and extremely lucky) to wear, you can find few better, dollar for dollar, than a JLC Master Control, (can be found new around $5200.00 or pre-owned for a bit less). If you are absolutely constrained to the $3000.00 range, I would look at Chronoswiss. Strong lineage, in house movements, great looking watches, and in your price range. I would be proud to wear a Chronoswiss on my wrist.

Again, just figure out what it is that attracts you to watches, and what's important to you. You can't go wrong if you buy what YOU like!
Couldn't agree more. I'm a perfect example. I first laid my eyes on the Tag Monaco when I was in high school, and instantly fell in love. After reading about its firsts and how McQueen was involved in its publicity in LeMans, it was a no brainer. It was my first "big boy" purchase right after graduating college and landing a great job.
Now I'm looking at an autodromo vellelunga. Tag was near 4k, this is near 4 hundred. The only similarity they share is they check all my boxes for a great automotive inspired watch. And if we're honest, isn't that why this thread exists in the first place?

Very impressive collection, if it were real. Alas, all fakes. And pretty crappy ones at that. But, good on you for trying to pass them off as real...

So I just got a signing bonus while starting a new gig. Should I blow a chunk of it on a Panerai Luminor 1950? Damn! Killing me, I really want this watch

A few reasons.

1. The Patek and the AP are each about $20k. Nobody puts $40k in watches in a $50 chinese POS case (look at the top, its garbage)

2. The Patek and the AP are each about $20k. Nobody puts $40k in watches next to a $2000 tudor (Rolex's "off brand.")

3. The Patek and the AP are each about $20k. Nobody puts $40k in watches in a case that's NOT a winder

4. The photo is blurry, but the Yachtmaster bezel and the Submariner pearl are "off"

5. The Patek has a lot of reflection in it, which it should not as they all come with AR coating on them

6. Again, blurry pic, but the crown on the daytona is sticking out way too far. They are almost flush with the crown guards on the real thing.

Those are just a few of the reasons.

Very interesting and good spotting. I am not a fan at all of counterfeit watches!

I myself just have a Rolex 116610 LV.
