Watches
do any of you wear a watch thats in the $200-300 range that you like a lot. Im looking for a nice(formal i guess?) watch more than a sporty watch.

I think you might be able to get an automatic for this price, but your selection will be very limited. There are some solar watches that are dressy in that price range.

Some tissot or bulova can be found for the ight end of that range. I have a Tissot that is 12 years old. Yes, it needs a battery every 4-5 years, but otherwise flawless. If you can, buy swiss.

google is a scary, scary thing. I have been looking but i thought it might be smarter to get something that other people have and use because I've owned a few cheaper watches and they all broke.

You should go to www.Timezone.com
$2-300 will buy you an inexpensive Chinese movement that won't keep good time. What type of watch are you looking for? Dress? Sports? Any particular features? Stopwatch? Date? Second time zone? |

I am a big fan of luminox watches, but they are military style. They have some fancier versions, but they are rugged too.

Auto in that price range is tough. $300 don't worry about auto. Lot of awesome quartz watches. Check out Skywatch. New company, but some nice pieces that try to call in some of the more traditional watchmaking craftsmanship.
And to be honest, my GMT Master II keeps awful time compared to my quartz watches - loses a minute a month - the chronometer watches are more about loving that you have this thing on your wrist with as many parts as your BMW engine. I still love wearing it though. Looks good in suits, looks good in workout gear, looks good in a tux. But I'll be the first to admit, if you want something that actually keeps Navy master clock time, don't get an auto watch. |

My wife has one. It's gorgeous. I think they are trying to go upmarket - hard to find sometimes. Have to go to the Tourneu in the mall - which any watch enthusiast will tell you is the number one spot for mark-ups. But they are nice quartz watches. Might be more than $300 but from everything I've seen (and I'm a self-admitted watch snob) they are nice timepieces.
I am actually a big fan of just spending big on a good watch. I have a quartz Tag I bought 10 years ago for $900 that still works awesome - I've lent it to my brother now and he still wears it daily and gets compliments on it. My wife gave me my Rolex last year as a gift because my dad has the same model - a 1973 GMT Master I - that he still wears it. You get a good one, it lasts for ever. And you pass it down to your sons. I know not everyone is going to drop $7k on a watch, but the point is you don't need to - but you do need to spend $700 - $1200 for a good quartz that will last forever. |

My father is a major watch collector. He has 40k vacherons and pateks and audemars but doesnt know much of these, to him, lower end watches. He says tags are ok but the priceier models arent worth it and he has one or two but i kinda want something different.
Thank you for pointing me to skywatch. They look like a modern play on the rolexs. I'll look more into them if you say they are reliable and quality. |
