Lots of stuff that seems like it's copied from BMW, but I guess everyone copies everything.
You have to figure that Infiniti is getting tired of being a follower, and they want to be a leader. The G37 just may put them there. It looks very good. IMO, the G35 is a fairly close second to the 3er already. I thought the G35 6MT sedan that I tried was very clearly the second-best car I test drove when I bought my E90, and I tested a lot of cars.

Yep, the Altima pretty much nailed the Maxima's coffin. It's a shame some of the Infiniti products don't have more upscale interiors...take the 350Z. Maybe in a base model it's ok (under 30k). But when loaded-up, that interior should be more upscale imho.

If I were in marketing at BMW AG I would be clamoring for a ZHP package with real functional teeth -- 19" wheels w/quality tires, more substantial sway bars, performance interior, LSD, and a minimum 30 bhp ECU mod -- to release in the 2008 model year to put the G37 to rest. It should not be mentioned in the same breath as the 335. The M3 is fine and dandy. But that is not where the battle is being fought.

I'm really not liking the interior or exterior. The body looks like an older design and the interior looks like it's trying too hard to be hyper-realistic and cutting edge. I guess that's what the asian market is all about.
I nearly bought the G35 coupe myself right before I decided on the E90 325i. The BMW just offered not only better quality, but a heritage and unique driving experience I felt on no other car I test drove from any other manufacturer but maybe Porsche (just recently I tried the Cayman S, what a fun ride and beautiful car!). The design was multitudes better inside and out, and I didn't feel like I was in a cheap rice rocket wannabe car. |
