My neighbor had a new E55 AMG... He would get home and the inside of the car would smell like gas... So after a couple days of it and a good cleaning of the inside he took it to the dealer... The dealer walks out and says "Wow ur gas tank was leaking"....

The next thing the service man said was "THANK GOD YOU DIDN'T SMOKE"....

Oh ya but Benz makes great reliable car just like BMW...

There was a recall for the E55s. It had to do with the fuel sending unit. It's located in the tank. The EPA mandated a returnless fuel system on all cars in 2004. The plastic part on the top of the seal would crack which could leak a little bit of gas onto the pump bowl. Inside a car even a little bit can smell really bad. Smoking wouldn't cause a fire with it (it was located under the rear bench seat) and no E55s ever caught fire. But it sure scared a lot of people The recall fixed it.

But a bigger problem are the EPA rules that made manufacturers change their fuel systems to supposedly keep evaporating fuel reach the atmosphere. It creates a more complicated returnless rail setup with issues of high pressure problems with injectors and more components (to go bad.) That may very well have a connection to BMW's HPFP issues.

I like how Mercedes-Benz slows their commercial down to a mature pace and allows viewers to take a crystal-clear view of what's happening. Sometimes BMW commercials have too many cut-scenes... Flashing in and out is irritating. It costs more for Mercedes to purchase air time and let a commercial unwind itself.

Yeah, but they are often after different demographics. A lot of BMW commercials emphasize driving, where as many Mercedes commercials are "European Lexus" commercials (safety and reliability)

I always thought these were traditional Merc traits. I would be sad if a 120 year old brand is trying to nick values from a 20 year old one. I generally don't really like most German cars (even if i own an E90) but i do have a soft spot for Mercedes.

No you are right. They are traditional Mercedes traits. I just couldn't resist making a Lexus comment. I was laughing because Mercedes is not a reliable vehicle (nor is BMW for that matter).

These have to be some of the most pathetic responses to a post on this entire website. All the original poster did was try and share a video and everyone has turned it into a bash fest on BMW and Merc. I enjoy videos like this no matter who the car company who makes it is. I find it funny how everyone is so quick to trash these two brands all the time even though the majority of you own one of them. Nothing ..from TV's to even houses are built like before. You walk into a house built 30 years ago and its all solid and made to last a long time, but not forever. The ones today are all shit. Do you really think car companies would still be around if they built cars that you could buy and it would last forever? Get real people!

Thanks for enhancing the conversation.
Don't get your panties in a bunch. Take a breath and relax...
Nobody's trashing the brands. But when you make commercials bragging about reliability, you should expect some measure of recourse if reliability isn't really one of your strong points. I make purchases based on how a company is doing now, not how they did things 30 years ago.

I have no expectation that they are going to build cars that last forever. Nor did anyone say anything close to that. You are worse than a couple of women I dated in the past. They would make ridiculous accusations, then roast me for that very thing I didn't say.

I do, however, expect for company that makes commercials touting their reliability to be at the top of the reliability charts.

it's a good commercial but a BMW one would have more 'goosebump' feel to it i believe.

Do not like MBs new slogan at all though .. The best or nothing , really? They had to brainstorm a full year for that one?

I wonder how long the marketing team took to come up with "Joy".

Reminds me of Ren and Stimpy everytime I hear/see the spots.

I guess I am numb because no commercial of any sort has ever given me goosebumps.
