Need help with canon lens

Alright guys. Something came up and I need a new telephoto NOW.
I previously was using a 1D with a MK1 70-200 2.8 IS. Great football pictures last year.

Problem, I no longer have that lens or camera body.

All I've got now, is a XTI and a T2i.

So, I'm trying to make myself able to get the MKII 70-200 2.8, but its 2,289$. Now, Whichever lens I'm planning on buying, I'm planing on selling before summer - Therefore, I just want one where I'll assume as little depreciation as possible. I figure I could get the MKII and sell it in 6-9 months for over 2k since its still very new.

But puting out that sort of money for a lens worries me and I'm not sure if its possible.

OR, I'm considering buying a new MKI non IS 70-200 2.8 for 1300, but since its an older lens, I'm not sure how depreciation will hit it since its 6 years old already and the other one is brand new.

Could someone lead me in the right direction? Remember, I'll be selling it, It needs to be a 2.8, and I want to incur little depreciation. I don't want to rent a lens, and I'm not sure if a used lens is the best idea for re selling down the road.

Thanks.

Get a decent deal on a used lens and you will incur minimal depreciation on resale. There will still be a market for L lenses - even out of date ones - at the right price. I'd look around for an old beater 70-200/2.8 non-IS for ~$800. Even with new models out you should be able to sell it in a year for ~$600 or more.

oh yeah. good idea. I don't know that I could give it up, but if you don't need the latest and greatest, the non IS 70-200 is still a great lens.

thanks for the help guys.

I just ordered the MKII. It's a big purchase but I'm figuring I can sell it in 8 months for almost what I payed (if i can let go of it!). I'm really excited as this is the first L lens I actually will be owning!
