Is photo radar actually good?
So I was recently pulled over in Scottsdale, AZ and given a ticket for speeding . After wasting about 30 mins of my time waiting for the cop to write it up I realized maybe photo radar might not be that bad. I used to be a huge opponent of speed cameras, but now I'm not so sure.
Ever since Scottsdale has taken down all their speed cameras I have noticed a lot more cops with radar guns, including a new fleet of blacked out unmarked cars. So isn't it better to get a ticket in the mail that you can ignore? Rather than get pulled over by a physical person that can prove you received the ticket? And wouldn't the police rather get true criminals off the street than waste time writing speeding tickets? Just wondering what you guys think because there is a petition to get a proposition in the next election that will ban photo radar in Maricopa County. I was for it but now I'm not so sure.

The ticket won't just go away if you get it in mail and ignore it so I don't really see what's the point there. As for camera vs. cop, I prefer getting a ticket from a cop because it's easier to contest and win (at least in CA).

Another trick that seems to be working is that my new car is registered under my company, it seems Redflex does not send photo radar violations to company owned cars... according to an article I read and some unintentional testing by myself. Quote:

i wouldnt mine if all the roads and highways were enforced by speed cameras... this way you'd know where they are before hand... esp with radar detectors that have gps built in...

Don't assume speed cameras would predictably stay in one place or would be limited to just a few locations. If they begin to prove to be good revenue generators, look to see them spread like the plague. I much prefer cops because they can use their judgement as to such things as to how fast do you need to go relative to everyone else to get a ticket. You can negotiate with a person.

I'd rather get a ticket from a speed camera because that would just be a fine and won't go on the driver's license's history since they can't prove who the driver was which is better for insurance purposes.
Also, with camera's you'll know exactly where they are where as for cops they could be anywhere camping on their ass with a radar or laser gun catching you off guard when driving 'spirited'. ________ Landau (Australia) ________ S90 (Yamaha) Specifications ________ Gm foods ________ The apprentice advice Last edited by OverDrive; 04-14-2011 at 10:54 PM.. |
