Ok, my wife got a speeding ticket lastnight doing 73 in a 55mph highway. Hawaii only has 3. Anyway, she was in the middle of the pack with cars literally all around her. The cop pulled her over and showed her the radar. Can they really tell which car is doing what in a pack? I think she should go to court and fight this since the traffic was "medium" as indicated on the ticket and she was flowing with the speed of traffic and by slowing down could have caused an accident. Anyone have any thoughts or arguments to get her out of this ticket? Thanks in advance!

Fight the power! You can take your chance of going to court, but the majority of the time, the Judge sides with the officer.

I'm thinking she has a good chance since the flow of traffic was that fast and how can they tell which car is speeding in a pack of vehicles doing the same speed?

the bottom line is she violated the speed limit......

my old man tried using that excuse....and he got chewed out by the judge.....hahaha!

I don't know about you but in Orange County I tried the whole extend it for 3 mos. crap and then fight it... The cop didn't show, so the freaking judge called in the clerk and asked him to CALL THE COP. I had to wait in the court house for 2 hours until he showed up and then I lost. The cop didn't even know the color of my car!!! It was a joke. Only saving grace was that I was allowed to take traffic school in the end.

I don't know about your situation, but I wouldn't go to court and argue equal protection unless you can show she was pulled over because she was a minority. At least around here, traffic court judges are pretty no-nonsense so you would have to have very convincing evidence. Just being the unlucky one pulled over in a pack of speeding cars wouldn't cut it.

Depending on how expensive the ticket is, though, I would recommend finding a lawyer to represent you in court. It will cost you a couple hundred bucks but your lawyer may get her ticket reduced. Your technical question -- can a radar really tell if you were speeding if you were in the middle of the pack? -- is something an experienced traffic lawyer can help with.

she only did 73...lol (not 120mph)
Cops here dont give tix for 73mph in 55 zone...is a waste of time

I don't know what she was doing but can't say anything since I got a ticket last year. Her ticket is $147. I just hate to let the cash go when I could get something for the car for x-mas Lucky she has out of state DL so it won't get reported.
