some say that with a tune, the 335d can produce 500 lb ft of torque, and get quarter mile times similar to a stock 335i, all we know is it only comes in automatic

BMW says it will get 33 mpg highway and go 0-60 in 6 seconds. OK, but not amazing. I would imagine that a 135d version is possible IF the 335d is sucessful.

The reason is that BMW did not think the manual tranny could adequately handle the torque. Kinda lame, but better than the tranny going out.

Good point Ben. Does Euro spec get manual option?

Edit: confirmed auto only UK as well, point taken. Still think it's dumb

I think with all the HPFP's failing out there BMW didn't need to have toasted manual transmissions in 335d's to add to it.

just to clarify, the auto that the 335d is getting is diffirent than the 335i auto. the 335i mt can handle more tq than 335i auto.
