'09 Chevrolet Impala SS V8 rwd - I'd Drive It....

GM is returing to rwd for the Chevrolet Impala, a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 for the SS model. I'd say it's about time. Chevrolet is doing a good job of selling the current fwd Impala. I'd never buy or drive one. I do not like the current Impala. I think the V8 engine is a waste in this fwd car. Now the new 2009 Impala which was designed in Australia, I'd drive. I think this car looks good. I would have to have the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 SS Impala. Yep I would drive an '09 RWD Impala 6.2-liter LS3 V8!

Damn this is a hella good looking car and it's going to do well for Chevrolet and GM. The only drawback to this car is that alot of people will want one and GM will build as many as they can sell. I expect to see alot of these on the road in the near future. It will be released in '08 as an '09.

Based on this, GM is finally waking up. It's about time.

They already make the car for the Middle-East markets. It is nothing more than a rebadged Holden Commodore SS-V. I like the car but Pontiac will already have it with the G8 GT.

The domestics keep wondering how to cut costs and sell more cars. Well based upon what they already produce overseas they might as well just shutdown the local design houses and import the existing designs from their overseas divisions. I just don't get it. :iono:

Excellent thread Chris..
Good things about this car:
- It's designed by GM Australia which is light years ahead of GM USA.. Retiring GTO is a great car.. Probably more reliable, better interior, new platform
- 6.2 V8 is a GEM of an engine, very efficient on the highways, and It's tunable to insane powers on the cheap.. (Tons of aftermarket for Corvette engine)
- This car is newer GM platforms (read: stiffer and handles better)
- GM constantly runs 0 apr for 5-6 years, This car with no interest for many years would ROCK..
- I have a GM credit card and earn like 5% toward any GM car...

New CTS-V is rumoured to have AWD and 7.0 V8 from Z06.... Thats more $$ though, $55+

Wow, yet more ignorant and misinformed opinions on GM/Domestics.

Firstly, what you're seeing here is no more than testing. This particular car is already on sale in the M.E. and there are no intentions to market it here in the states. I'm more than sure it's a mule for something GM has in the works, since this is already a Zeta car . Secondly, Holden is no better than Cadillac, they've just been allocated more R&D dollars for RWD development than any of the other GM brands, because that's pretty much all they've worked on all these years, so they have a little more expertise in the matter. Last, Pontiac vehicles will be the only GM NA cars that share the same sheetmetal as Holdens, the new Impala will have an entirely unique design all unto itself.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it does seem that GM and Ford already make some pretty good (and in some cases great) cars overseas. It also seems that these cars are selling well, yet despite this there appears to be a reluctance to bring these vehicles to the US.

Can you imagine BMW or Mercedes selling completely different cars in Europe and the US? I realize that there are different engines and trimlines, but a 3 series is a 3 series and a C class is a C class. It's almost as if the domestics would rather reinvent the wheel than use their corporate know-how to make a better product. :iono:

That's a Michigan Manufacturer plate - GM has carte blanche to run whatever they want with those plates. GM had a couple of 959 Porsches (totally illegal on US roads) that they ran regularly on the streets with MFG plates. ; -)

Sure would be nice if the boys in blue finally got a decent performing automobile that was somewhat safe. I still love the fact that the CHP uses Beamer bikes. If only they had 5 seriers, I might consider a change in employers.

For those BMW nut huggers this might be scary, but I think it's great that other major car manufactures are returning to the RWD format more and more. I'm not a fan of FWD car's at all anymore, and hope to see car makers focus more on introducing RWD to more models. If only they could find a way to meet the state of the art safety benchmarks while still being under 3500lbs.

Car's are way to heavy today.

My thoughts exactly.. Although with how poor our country is right now i think its safe to assume that it will be some time before they get an update.

Those tires look really skinny for a powerful rwd. 235ish?
