Road trip
Planning to have a road trip in May. Starting Oxnard, Ca -Chicago-Denver -Las Vegas-home.
Planning drive I-40 maybe go down from OKholama city to Arlington to see my yearly heartache (Dallas Cowboys stadium) from Denver plan using I70. Drove that many times but not since covid lock down. I downloaded ABRP app. Anyone have experience with it. Looks great. I already planned charging via EA map. But now need things I must see. Definitely seeing Cadillac ranch. Anyways suggestions welcome Last edited by paprmkr; 04-02-2025 at 08:31 PM.. |

I drove from AZ to Tulsa last year. Electrify America stations are spaced quite nicely along this route.
There's one in Amarillo not far from Cadillac Ranch. ![]() |

Last spring we drove our i5 40 from Portland to LA, Tucson, Austin (for total eclipse), SLC, Boise, and back to Portland. All in all, a great trip. I was an experienced EV driver since I had a Tesla Model S from 2016-2018.
Some charging info: 1. Electrify America stations vary widely. (We got free EA charging for 2 years with our lease, so we tried to use them if convenient.) Some were empty, and some very crowded, with waits of 30 minutes and more. Some had all their chargers working and others only 50% or less. Usually plug and charge worked, but sometimes not. If not, try "charge here" in MyBMW app. Met lots of nice, interesting people while charging; more Rivians and less BMWs than I expected. Also went to some restaurants and coffee shops near the non-Walmart EA stations that I would never have tried if I were driving a non-EV, all of which were fun. 2. Other charging companies, such as EVGO and Shell Recharge, worked OK, but weren't any more reliable than EA. My favorites were the free, public ones we used in rural Utah - one was in a local museum across the street from an ice cream + pizza shop. Also used a free one at a Chevy dealer in far rural Texas, where the salesman asked if I was interested in the beautiful Corvette in the showroom. 3. PlusShare App was a good help in finding non-EA chargers. LM Portland |
