Gestures, Android Auto, and (lack of) Sport Mode gesturing

Well looks like you can't set a gesture for switching to sport mode anymore. Anyone know why? Is this a safety thing maybe? Can't accidentally gun it because you spoke too Italian? (To be fair, I did turn the radio down speaking impassionedly to my wife about something.)

The silver lining? Android Auto-sourced audio has this nasty habit of kicking back in once connected, even if the last thing the car was playing wasn't from Android Auto. So I set AA not to auto-play audio. Some apps get a little confused by this and don't go to a screen where they can properly play when I switch to AA. But turns out the double point gesture for play/pause/mute basically fixes this. My two-finger point will resume it proper.

I'd still rather kick over to sport mode with a double point, but I suppose I'll settle for talking to the car for that.

Anyone else figure out something unexpectedly convenient with gestures?

I always wa snot happy not able to gesture to sport. I don’t run CarPlay that often for that reason that if I play something on my phone CarPlay opens the audio but won’t switch back to the audio I was using once I hear the phone message or short video grandson may have sent. Then pressing the audio button on dash most time doesn’t give me option to select other audio.
I have to use the steering wheel to go back to SiriusXM. So you saying you used the double finger (up hers gesture)? To go back to previous audio? I will have to try that.
I too find the gestures very sensitive to my Mexican language when talking with wife in car. I do use the changing stations all the time. And volume gestures.

Not exactly. I found after I set Android Auto not to auto-play, so it wouldn't take over after switching inputs, that it would sometimes not resume when I actually wanted it to. Like I'd be streaming through an app, leave the car, come back, and it'd show that source on the home screen, but when I tapped into it, it would basically go a view in the app that didn't have a play button. But when I do the double finger, it will resume properly.

Basically working around a couple sub-par aspects of Android Auto.

Apple Maps also has the crowd sourcing police warnings. I use BMW navigation but it still displays those warnings via CarPlay.

Yes which more users input. But everyone used to Waze. But hopefully it comes around. I also like the fact when navigating with Apple Maps it shows on HUD too

I’ve found them helpful and pretty inentional so have yet to actually trigger one inadvertently. What is the thought process to turn them off?

I think you can consider them "off" if you simply don't assign them to anything. If you already have them assigned, you should be able to delete that assignment in the shortcut view (pulling down from the top of the Control display) and they will become unassigned.

I’ve inadvertently changed radio channels while talking to my wife. She says I use my hands a lot while talking…I guess she’s right.
