Hi Guys,
After reading through my manual and 'learning' about my new I5 edrive40 M Sport - I looked in the boot flap and observed no locknut present in the clip space provided in the boot lid. Spoke to service Tech at my local dealer and was told BMW don't do lock nuts for wheels on I5 anymore. Wondering if this is just for Australia or is this in general. The space and clip are there to hold it, and being old school, I wouldn't want to come out to see my car with no wheels. I will end up buying lock nuts if this is the case, as I am a 'risk' minimiser sort of guy. |

The dealer added them to my M60 order, overpriced probably but I’m happy if the tool fits the clip in spot perfectly. It’s option Z62.

That’s weird. I get the record a path option every time. I want to say there was a toggle to turn it on. I bought the professional upgrade as soon as I got home, so I didn’t experience the other version. Not sure if it’s specific to that?

I did some research post my comment and it’s part of the professional upgrade package to buy so I’ll do that tmrw and experiment in the daylight.

When on the correct screen, you should see an option listed on the right, to record a path. Next time I'm in the car, I'll try to get a photo of that screen. I didn't think it was part of the upgrade, but maybe it is.

I think maybe it's putting it in car wash view that is doing it.

I tried it both ways interestingly but nothing yet. Waiting for a bit more sunlight and the family to all wake up before dad starts making a bunch of noise outside and talking about his car (again) to whoever is standing in the kitchen or garage when I read something new. 😂

Just confirming for all that are interested in… The missing link was needing the additional package to be purchased and the record function immediately showed on the screen once it was activated. It successfully backed out of and pulled into my garage. Admittedly, I’d like it to pull in just an inch or two further to clear the back bumper, but it did clear just not with as much space as I like, even though it in theory recorded to where I parked.

Yes that’s what I’ll try doing after I make sure I have sufficent space to “over pull in”, as we are in the midst of a garage clean up so things are a bit more scattered than normal.

It could work, but in my experience if you want to pull right up against a wall or cabinet, it might stop short of the end of your path even if you record a path rignt up to the wall. It seems to get nervous when actually executing the recorded path and always stops short of where I’ve ended the recording. I have to edge it forward another inch or two manually.

I’ve noticed it pulls in just a bit further than I normally do, and that it seems to really want to center itself in the garage.

Yeah I’m kind of screwed. We have a 3 car and I share the 2 car bay w/ my wife’s SUV and our classic car is in the single bay. The 2 ev chargers are on the 2 car side, and the 2 car garage door is also on the battery backup before the generator kicks on so I make sure I’m snugged over to the wall and then the kids enter the SUV from the driver’s side to minimize any door dings.

Lol. As it should be. I told my kids (When they lived at home) they could have a space in the garage when they paid my Mortgage.

Update - I was looking at efficient mode again yesterday and realized that the two “wings” on the side of the efficiency pyramid thing mirror the blue line on the power bar portion of the dash. I think it’s trying to highlight your acceptable margin of power use to maintain efficient driving but these things do seem to grow and shrink through a variety of weird and wonderful ways.
PS - Todd, I think you owe us more driving and ownership experiences, right?!? ;-) |

I must say, my longest trip to date was the journey to and from the detailers city up along Lake Erie (about 70 miles). This car is so relaxing to drive in “cruise mode”. It tracks effortlessly, and the suspension soaks up all but the harshest of conditions. I got some lengthy time to play with DAPP, and am quite amazed at its accuracy. I used it pretty extensively on the way home, and really wanted to see how frequently I had to intervene. The answer is one time, and it really wasn’t the 5’ers fault, but I am curious (not enough to try it) what would have happened if I didn’t. I was on a 3 lane section of Interstate, and the car had executed a change to the left-most lane to pass a slower vehicle. Once the maneuver was completed, it prompted me for permission to return to the middle lane. I authorized this and it began the maneuver. At the same time, an SUV driver decided to execute a move to the middle lane from right most lane. As we were relatively parallel to each it meant an attempt to occupy the same place at the same time, was rapidly unfolding. I intervened and forced it to stay in the left/most lane. This does beg me to ponder what would have happened if I didn’t. Would it have continued into the side of the SUV? Or gone back to the left lane on its own? One additional surprising thing, I’m subtly becoming aware of is the cars relatively flat cornering ability for its size. The body roll is more muted than I would have expected. This is a good thing! I’ll be curious to see how it behaves in twisties, when I can track through the left and immediate right banked turns of SE Ohio. One road in particular was named to Car & Drivers 10 best roads for this, in the past. Such explorations will have to wait for milder early summer weather and a journey to visit family. 😊 Last edited by ToddRGuy; 01-20-2025 at 02:32 AM.. |

Well, I did get one thing accomplished today. I was able to order my personalized plate for my G60. I’m actually surprised it was available, as another iteration was not.
THE 5ER was taken ☺️ |

Cool!
I was just reading David McCullough’s excellent book about the Wright Brothers, so although I know the bicycle shop was in Ohio, all the early flight experiements including the historic first manned powered flight took place at Kitty Hawk or nearby locations out on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, and of course the NC license plate proclaims “first in flight”. Funny to see both states going after this on their plate designs. |
