Exactly. I only had flats, several flats, with runflats -ironically. Never with a normal tire. If the mobility kit works and gets me to a place where I can purchase a tire I'm ok with that.

If there is no underfloor compartment that can hold an air pump, usually BMWs have a side pocket on the right which can hold an air pump in it’s bag. I carry one in every car. Unless it’s a blow-out, you can just pump up and keep going while monitoring the pressure with the TPMS display.

So a 550e may just mean it has more power than a 540i, but is definitely not an M550i equivalent.
Actually the numbers mean actual or theoretical naturally-aspirated displacement. This has been true as long as I can remember to the E21 320i. The E23 745i turbo from the 70’s-80’s (gray market only in the US, I had two used models) was really a turbocharged 3.5L 6 cylinder which was considered “bumped” to 4.5L equivalent. Since the more modern BMW V8’s were always 4.4L, the NA ones were 545 and 745, and the blown ones 550 and 750. 760 used different engines, 10 or 12 cylinder I think. Clearly this is getting more nebulous as hybrids and EVs are introduced, but that’s still the basic idea.

Mine came with a spare tire and then the spare tire wheel void is your jack and all the tools needed. It sits in a black bag that is then clipped into the trunk cargo hooks.

Yikes! Nothing like a little bondage harnesses in your trunk. Hope you are never are missing the tire bag. Explain that one to the wife. Go from the Ultimate Driving Machine to Don't Leave Home Without It Driving Machine. Good lord.

By the way what is the small bag on the left shelf?

And PeterC4, yes, all the 550ex's for the US market have the wonderful spare tire slapped in the trunk as standard. One can opt for the mobility kit however. Problem is that even the dealership didn't know the spare was NOT below the trunk floor. This is a communication failure on the part of BMW NA. They should have made sure the dealerships knew about this and sales reps could convey the situation to the customers. Even with the spare now out of the way, the trunk is still less useful than in the G30 - narrower, fewer storage cubbies, etc.

Thanks to both of you for your responses.
Do you mean can you edit a text before sending it via Apple Car Play? Yes, I have no problem doing this.

It’s the tow hook. I did laugh the carabiners that hook into the clips say not for climbing.

If the mobility kit works along with road side assistance then that works for me. as long as the wheel isn't damaged my bet is anyone is going to buy a new tire any who - full spare or not. Enjoy the more trunk space..
wow! Anyone know if this works with the M5 or the 750e series as well? Could i have optioned my x5 50e that way too? i’m assuming you can take it out if it is a pain for daily trips? I sometimes drive into some remote areas and an available spare would calm a little ocd loop in my head… It’s something that is always bothered me about my Tesla, that I can’t even have the option of carrying one.

Take it from me you will lose your F'n mind if you buy one after having a TESLA. Nothing works as it should, software wise. Let alone anything else. Biggest turd I ever had. Working on getting out of it. Right after the holidays. One more time to the dealership and attorney will send letters. I have had so many things go wrong, at least 4 different things, but are on times for the failed fix on 3 of them.

It's crazy to me that BMW didn't duplicate the G30 spare setup in the trunk of the G60 where it looks like it would easily work. Maybe they did for the G60 520i/530i/540i but this image makes it look like it would work in the 550e as well. A car with the optional spare uses the same floor as a car without it, but it sits on top of a carpeted foam kit that holds the spare, jack, wheel chocks, etc. If you want more trunk space, just remove the kit and replace the floor. This was a $150 option then, option code 300.
