I'm curious about coding and VA changes. I often hear that after any coding during OTA software update, all changes will be reset to the factory defaults. Is this true? If not, why wouldn't BimmerCode or other software work?"

Not in the UK you can't? Well at least not on the configurator?

Not sure what it is like in the US but here MSport Pro is basically a trim level above MSport and it gives you black grill with glow, shadowline lights, red calipers, M colors on seatbelts (mayybbee M stiching on the wheel?) and 20 inch wheels as standard for like nearly 4 grand.

I prefer, externally at least the silver grill with the blue in the headlamps tying in with the blue calipers etc. But I would take glow!

If I had gone pro I definitely would have gone Oxide.

I know pro is super popular though and I can understand why - I think the cars look really mean.

Agreed. That's why I did go Oxide Grey with MSport Pro. It does look mean. I can't wait to get it.

I am not a coder, the guy i used actually mentioned how he enters it into the cars system and it is 'registered' into the coding of the car as if it came from the factory and will not get erased.

btw, this cost me about $1000 in parts (retail) and I tried ordering a car but the whole deal went terribly wrong(wont get into that story here) and instead found my car in stock, only missing this one option which I knew I could do myself, as I own a business outfitting cars for many dealerships.
Besides loving my job, I like to do this stuff to prove it can be done when others say it cant.

I have an Oxide M Sport Pro with blue calipers, it's definitely an option in the UK

Not for the first time on this forum I have learnt something

It doesn't show on the configurator so must be something that can be done when ordering/speccing in person, but didn't actually check ha.

Oxide with the black sills, grill and rear bumper portion works really well.

I believe on the configurator it's shown as a single no-cost option below all the packages. Well hidden within the other options that BMW wants to charge us for!

I see. The UK configurator has different options. Going for M Sport Pro doesn't restrict us to 20" wheels (I have 19") and we can still choose between red and blue calipers. Thanks for the info!

My car doesn’t have a front camera and doesn’t have any sensor either. Does this mean I will have to buy the center cover and the camera cover?

I’m planning to replace the stock grille on my BMW G60 with the Iconic Glow grille. However, I want to connect it directly to a power source without performing any coding.

My question is:
1. If we disregard the visual changes, will the dealer still be able to detect this modification during a service or through the vehicle’s computer?
2. Could this potentially void my warranty, even though I’m avoiding coding?

I’d appreciate any insights or experiences regarding this.

On your Question 2, under US law the warranty would be not be affected unless the modification was the cause of the problem sought to be addressed under the warranty. I believe similar rules apply in the EU. Your profile says the car is in Ukraine; you would need to know what local law says about warranties and modifications.

On your question 1, I am assuming you would connect to an ignition-on circuit. One of our electric gurus here might comment, but the car uses various electrical "buses" to distribute power and I am wondering whether the system would detect the new load and throw an error code? If you are thinking about connecting directly to the battery, wouldn't you need some kind of switch to turn off iconic glow when you shut the car? How are you going to keep the dealer from seeing that? (See above paragraph).

I’m curious whether the car will detect a new connection if the grille is wired into the ignition system. From my understanding, simply connecting it to the ignition circuit may not trigger any detection by the car, but I’d be very interested to hear also an electro expert’s opinion on this )

I am guessing it would not throw a code, just as radar detectors wired in to a ignition-on circuit do not throw codes. On one of my cars the radar is tapped into wiring in the mirror; the other is an installed system and it is wired to ignition on - but my detailing guys did the install and they know how and where too secure ignition-on power. The point is I think you need to know where to tap. Also I am not sure how the current draw for illuminated grill compares to a radar detector.

What about tapping where the 12VDC outlet in the center console connects? It should not draw too much power. It is LED after all.

You can tap into an Ignition power fuse (should be some in the passenger kick panel) and it will not produce a code. There is a small rubber grommet in the floor to get you external of the cabin. The LED in the grille is only 3 wires.... 1 is ground, 1 is left, 1 is right led power. If you have a radar detector that uses USB c you can run a 15ft. cord hidden all the way to the rear center console ports.

Just a cautionary note, some rearview mirrors offer 'power' BUT that power comes from a computer module and is monitored...and if connected to another device can damage the computer module.(common on corvette and a few others) It is simply a better practice to go to the fuse box which is NOT computer controlled for any device.

The cover is available for $50 for non-radar sensor vehicles and only used to keep it all black if yours is silver. I paid $100 to just paint mine vs. $300 for a new cover.
I dont own an i5 so I cant say if it is the same or not but i wouldnt think they'd make 2 different shapes for a 5 series (???) Go to a dealership and take some pics & measurements to be certain. If you dont need the LED glow portion just take your original grille and have it painted black.

I’ve had mirror taps for radar in 3 or 4 BMW’s going back many years from F series to G series with 3 done more recently on a 2019 G01, a 2023 G01 and a 2025 G60. No issues like those on Corvette. I am quite sure for BMW it is safe. For op and grille wiring I would not use mirror tap as it is simpler to use the fuse box.

A quick update... if you have Coding done, it will cause a LINBUS error with the carpet lights to stay on while driving. You must also swap out the 2pin carpet lights with new 3pin Linbus carpet lights. The originals are Static lights vs. Dynamic lights.
