I just bought the car 2 weeks ago and when I saw the key they gave me I was surprised at first because my friend had a piano black key and they preferred a very plain key for me. When I talked to the seller he said that the newest models come with this key. I think the piano black and M details on the other key model look better and I went to a car locksmith in my neighborhood to change it. He changed the outer cover with an OEM product for about 50 dollars. I am waiting for your comments, do you think it is worth the upgrade?

Really? I just assumed that the key cover you replaced it with was present on MSport Keys, and the other was for non MSport models. If they're all like that now, that's disappointing for sure.

I took delivery of my msport 540 in January so it was one of the first 540 coming to US and the second one posted on this forum.

Both my keys are piano black with that msport accent line going across (OPs second pic). That was back then though. I am not sure what kinda keys they now give out with msport packages.

Side note, I immediately got a cover for the key as this piano black thing scratches when you breathe on it.

M sport pro package here (full option 530e) but got the poor mans key. Interested to see if you know the part number of the housing?

I took delivery of my (Week 36 build) 2025 540iX MSport, MSport PRO a couple of weeks ago. It also came with the plain black key fobs. I thought it was going to come with the piano black ones and asked the dealer if these were the right keys. He said these are the ones that come with all the new 2025 cars. He agreed that the piano black ones looked better when new, but he also said people complained they got all scratched up quickly unless they bought a cover. I would totally pay $50 for the piano black M key fob.

The key fobs for my 2024 i5 are the glossy ones with the M Sport colors. I suppose as someone else said in these forums, the cost savings programs continue to be in full effect.

For me, I would not spend money to replace them because they just sit in a drawer at home and I only use them when I have to go to the dealer for service. I always use my phone as the key, with the credit card key in my wallet as a backup. However, I do like the look of the old one more, so if I did use the key every day then I would consider changing it out I suppose.

Good point actually! Actually, we're replacing the plain key with a 1000 dollar key now

I did not know the exact code for the OEM part my key man handled it very well when I show him the photo of it.

It starts preconditioning the cabin, for ICE vehicles I think it’s remote engine start

Yes, short pressing the bmw logo x 3 will remote start ICE G60 therefore kicking off heating or AC in the car.

This is nothing new G30 LCI had the same functionality on the keyfob.

I am not sure why OPs keyfob actually does not have the 3x lettering though. My 540 has it and looks like it's on M60 keyfob too, maybe some region specific thingy (Ankara) ?

I think that on Europe car, this is achieved by using "diamond" button, which is reserved for some "panic" purpose in US :-)

The new key.fobs for 2025's don't have the 3x on them. But the button works the same. You push 3x and the car starts. (If you have remote start activated in IDrive)

Interesting. I just checked, the FOB for my 2024 i5 eDrive40 has the 3x on it (in case anyone was wondering).
