buying i5 m6 from auction

I saw a beautiful car that has less than 3k miles in a dealer auction. Mercedes dealer auctioned the car - I assume it is a trade-in. it is i5 m60 2024, no dent or damage, 1 owner. the auction price is 68k, the MSRP is 98. my questions:

1-do you think this is a risky deal?
2- Since it is almost brand new, do you think BMW would honor the warranty? or can I buy a warranty?

No experience with your questions, but at that price I suspect it's fair as EV used prices are dropping fast.

On warranty I would expect the mfg warranty to be valid as it's neither over mileage or years.

Is the "One Owner" an individual or a rental car company? And yes to the warranty question. They do have to honor the manufacturer's warranty, and you can still purchase the extended warranty and service package from your dealer. The only things that don't carry over are any other protection packages the original owner may have purchased, like the wheel protection, paint protection etc...

hi AiredaleDad; thanks for your comment! Based on the CARFAX, and title it's "personal use." purchased Jan/2024 and drove 2800 miles. my buddy who has a dealer license said we could purchase some kind of insurance from the auction to return the car back within 2 weeks should we find an issue. so my plan is to get the car and take it to the BMW shop for a full inspection and buy an extended warranty.

thanks! no decision as of yet, but I am about to pull the trigger In the worst-case scenario, I will lose the shipping fees ($900 from New England to Florida) and the auction warranty/inspection ($189). otherwise, I would save almost 30k, hassle and ripoff from local dealers. I guess the owner traded it in for Mercedes because he didn't like it or cold weather shortened the range, or maybe tax write-off for rich bankers who change luxury cars annually any idea how much it costs to perform a full inspection by BMW?

I don't know the cost of an inspection for an i5 M60, but since there is no engine to examine, I imagine it isn't all that involved. Good luck! Sounds like a great deal for an almost brand-new car.

Have you looked at the used car listings? I think 68k is too expensive for an auction car with no dealership standing behind it. Quick search - I see used i5 m60s selling in the 60s from non bmw dealers.

I have not! I definitely not going to buy it from a used car dealer. my friend pulled the carfax which has the original BMW dealer name and phone, I will try to call them today and verify the warranty. I notice the word "Beta" near the battery health, does BMW produce a beta version in 2024 or is this because it is the first BMW i5?
