The Picture of my Car in iDrive

When I have the live car view up in iDrive, the wheel selection on my car is not accurate. Everything else looks accurate based on how it was built at the factory. Does anyone else see this in their car too, or is it just me? I wonder if there is a way I could change it myself using BimmerUtility.

I have the 19" M Sport wheels on the car, but iDrive shows my car with the 21" wheels. The myBMW app shows the right wheels - it's only in the car where it is wrong. It's certainly not a big problem, just wondering about how common it is and if there is an easy way to fix it.

I don't think infotainment graphics can be changed. This rather looks as an invitation to upgrade to 21"

Same here. Wheels in iDrive (and when viewing pictures from the remote camera views) are different.

Thanks, interesting to know that I'm not the only one. I definitely like the look of the 21 inch wheels so I guess I will just enjoy looking at them on my car in iDrive.

For the record, I think you made the wiser choice going with the 19’s. The post on here where the guy is trying to sell the 21’s for his dad, kind of confirmed my decision.

I would like to drive both back to back over the same road to see how much of a difference I could perceive. Not only in ride comfort but also carving through a banked road curve, to test the lateral g’s and see where either size began to complain.

Mine’s always shown the 21’s although I have 20’s - I assume there are limits to the amount of customization they’ll put on those representations

I'm definitely happy with my original choice, simply because I value comfort over looks, and didn't want to take the chance.

This makes me wonder if anyone has the same wheels in iDrive as are on the real car. 😂

For an EV:

19” for range (especially with aero wheels)
20” for better handling and bad road comfort at the expense of range
21” for best performance at the expense of ride comfort and range

21” is best performance choice but you can get blow outs and other tire and wheel damage from potholes and bad roads if you have a lot of that bad stuff where you drive

Yes, but don’t forget looks and emotional response. I loved the 20” star spokes so much that I chose them over the 19” which was the practical choice. I have never bought a car to be practical. I have to fall in love. I still get butterflies in my stomach when I look at my car and it’s almost been a year.

Thanks for the reminder - maximum range was another reason I went with the 19s.

I completely agree. I know some people think of their car as an "investment" and are focused on resale value, etc. I don't. It's largely an emotional decision for me too.

Mine matches although I have the 21’s. However the caliper color on the picture shows red, while mine are blue. Incidentally I have an i5 loaner right now with 19” wheels and it is displayed correctly in idrive. So I’m 2 for 2 as of now!

Nice. Good to know that some wheels match up. Guess it's sort of the luck of the draw then. Weird that it can't be accurate. Oh well, there are bigger issues to think about.

I wouldn't say bad road comfort for the 20". More accurately it's firmer ride or at least maybe say less comfort, but not bad. I rather have a tire cause the vehicle to feel like it's not loosing grip around a corner like on an interstate exchange at 100mph.

Badly worded. Comfort on bad roads. Not bad comfort on roads.

My basic gist is that as you go up in wheel size and the tire gets lower profile (e.g. 19 to 20 to 21”), the range and road comfort decrease while handling performance increases. The lowest profile tire usually has the highest visual impact and is the one often used in factory shots for cars. Lots of people opt for them just for looks. Sometimes people have to back down if it just isn’t comfortable. That’s my warning.

I went from 16" 205/55 in my old Skoda as winter tires to 20" 275/35 in the rear wheels on G60 530e and road comfort just went up Maybe it is because of pneumatic suspension on EV/PHEV versions

I was playing around with this yesterday. If you go to the tire pressure monitor, there is an option for tire settings. Mine was set to auto detect and is correct but maybe the auto detect isn’t pulling up the right size tire, hence the display for the wheels is wrong? I noticed a manual option as well where you could set the wheels to 19,20 or 21”. Can someone who’s is not correct maybe check this setting?

I doubt this is it, and this should be correctly set from the factory and reflects the tires and not the wheels. Also, some models have several different wheel designs for the same tire size.

I'd agree. Although, I ended up ordering the 19's, since the 20's were only available in a staggered configuration, the vehicle I test drove had the 20" 938M Wheels. I drove it over the same roads, that I had just come over in my Audi A5 Sportback with 19" wheels (and sport suspension) and the ride was very compliant, and adsorbed the harshest elements better.

I'd imagine the 19" will do so subtly better? If I'm disappointed with the..umm... <cough> lateral g onramp performance, I might end up biting the bullet and switching them out for a summer/winter configuration situation.
