My fleet of 5 owned BMWs, 3 of which I still have, has 1,015,000 total personally driven miles out of 1,138,000 total chassis miles. Average age owned 16.5 years and 19.3 chassis years. BMWs owned since new are 27, 18, and 18 years old. Of the two bought used one is at 10 years owned so far and the other I had just 3 years ownership (I never intended to keep it very long).

All had/have front license plates and none caused overheating.

I am very happy for you. I have had a 1973 Bavaria, 1979 635csi, 1999 528i, 2008 X5 4.8i, 2008 535xi wagon, and 2008 E90 M3, and still have a 75 2002, 99 M3, 2012 X3 2.8i, and 2018 M5. None of my BMW have had overheating issues either and all but 2 of those 10 cars were performance modded.

I was browsing the forums for options and then someone mentioned zip ties. I thought it might be worth a try.

I also used a 3M rubber tape on the car and on the back of the plate holder, where the screws would be attached, to make sure the plate holder doesn't have any play and doesn't rub.

radm do you have the exact model of 3M tape you used? Most of my search results are coming up more for electrical tape, then a double sided rubber tape.

Was it something like the 3M Super-Strength Molding Tape?
