BMW i5 Stop UK

Have ordered my BMW i5 a while back many many months, and it had finally been delivered to the dealership ready for me to pick up this evening .

Has a call from my BMW dealer and he said although he arranged a pick up of the car for this evening, there is a stop sale in place. I asked what does that mean and he said he doesn’t really know. I asked for a time frame and he said untill bmw tell him there’s nothing he can do. He has 30 other customers in a similar scenario apparently. I asked can I not just sign something and take it if it’s right in front of you he said no, and no courtesy car available.

Does anyone know how long these things take? Will it be sorted before the weekend?

I've just had the same message. Delivery was due next week. Little frustrated but I guess these things happen. Keen to know how long these issues normally take to rectify.

i5 MSport Touring Delivery Halt

I was due to pick mine up on Friday and had a call from the dealer that morning to advise Delivery Halt. When I went to the dealership I discovered it was in reference to a Universal Joint. No further information and hope to hear more next week. My trade in i4 is at the dealership and they have given me a i5 saloon in the interim.

My Uk 40 touring has also arrived at dealers last week.

It is affected by a technical hold. Not the braking system but something relating to suspension. Not much further information. And they don’t know if it is a replacement part or just a check.

Bit frustrating but the dealer has communicated well and says they don’t foresee it being a long delay.

Had an update on my i5 MSport 40 Touring today. It is on delivery hold and customer service UK said the universal joints have to be replaced. I assume they were part of a bad batch as plenty of touring models are out there. The dealership has been told replacement parts should be supplied and fitted in the next week.

This sounds like my issue. I have been told it is about something relating to suspension. 40 MSport Touring like yours.

Has been in the dealer since the 18th.

Going to give the dealer a tinkle and see if there is any update tomorrow maybe. See if I can get a timeline which was my main frustration!

Contact BMW customer service 0370 505 0160 and give them your VIN # and they can check the reason for the Delivery Hold. With that information you can chase your dealer to acquire the parts and arrange for them to be fitted. They may contact the recall team but mine was not on the recall list. I suspect the logistics of this process has not caught up with my vehicle.

Ah interesting. I spoke to customer services on Tuesday and they could see the recall but not any reason. So they had as little info as the dealers.

Will try again today as it sounds like there has been an update. Thanks!

I just put my VIN number in the UK BMW recall checker and for the first time my car is now showing as being affected by the brake recall, its been in the country since July 22nd with BMW/Dealer and in all that time when i checked it was always showing as not affected. Maybe they've had a big update recently?

Sadly more updates today. The parts required to fix the Universal Drive issue will not be available until WEEK 45!!! This message was passed to me by the senior sales director of my local dealership and he has been pressing all the buttons with his contacts. He then said he was prepared to remove the required parts from an i5 showrooom model as long as there are no compatibility issues. Ironically when he checked to ensure there were no Delivery Holds etc on the showroom model he found one - the earlier Brake Recall isssue! You could not make this up!! Assuming there is no issue with removing the universal drives he will make that happen. Failing that I will be potentially forced to cancel. I do have their commitment that I can keep the i5 saloon until things are resolved but I have to admit this has seriously undermined my confidence in the i5 product and BMW in general.

So spoke to BM customer services centrally. My recall/technical hold is the universal joint issue….

Didn’t get a chance to call the dealer to get any timeline on parts. But I’m assuming I will be waiting until WK45 as well.

Im frustrated because I nearly cancelled the order and reordered with a slightly different spec (adding B&W) and the car would have been a WK 42 delivery instead of 38, but I climbed down because I was getting the car a month earlier. So in effect I would have got the later car earlier than I’m going get mine now - assuming it’s a bad batch rather than wholesale issue.

What dealer are you with?

Thanks!

I am with Jardine down South East, will let you know if I get told anything different re delivery time scales this week.

Really frustrating, but the dealers are being dealt a poor hand here. At least I know what the recall is about now.

I am a bit concerned mine is just sitting outside in the rubbish weather we have been having, not stored away properly, but that is just me overthinking it

Life and lack of cash flow must be really hurting my local dealer. The senior sales director has come back with an offer of an i5 MSport Pro in Black Saphire. In addition to my original spec it has several additional goodies of Towbar, upgraded sound system, Crafted Clarity controls, Carbon Fibre trim and included 5 year service pack. All in all £6k extra value and no change to the original finance payments. This car is at the dealership also on delivery hold as a showroom car with brake parts due tomorrow. You couldn’t make this shit up!!

wow I mean I’m guessing WK45 isn’t happening then.

For what it’s worth my dealer told me that they don’t even know what the fix is. I suggested it might be replacing the universal joint and they said that isn’t been confirmed.

I am going to keep trying but I am not holding my breath.

If I don’t have the car by WK45 or at least a collection date I will not be a happy camper.

Needed a longer post. The dealer can potentially make the earlier sale and also release the loan car for sale. Sales are suffering badly.

Good news! Parts are now available for Delivery Hold vehicles affected by Universal Joint issue. Dealers are required to order to prioritise.
Also the brake part for the i5 MSport Pro alternative higher spec car offered to me has been delivered and that car will be available Friday or Monday. Can’t wait!! 😄😄

All ready to collect on Monday 😀😀

Do you have a timeline on your car up in Scotland?

I dropped mine an email yesterday asking for an update, but will give them a ring in the morning.

ETA: So spoke to the dealer this morning and they have said they are awaiting imminently a list from BMW of affected chassis numbers, and this list will also dictate the order in which the cars are fixed, so they are prioritised centrally with BMW dictating which cars are sorted first (I think TurtleBoy said this on another thread). She doesn't yet have the list, but is hoping it will be days rather than weeks.

No more detail other than priority would be given to cars already at the dealer rather than those held at distribution centres. As I have accepted the dealer’s alternative offer my original car will be classed as stock and will be less of a priority.
