When should you first change the oil (ICE cars only, of course)?
BMW seems to recommend that this not be done until the end of 10k miles but I've always heard that with a new engine you change the oil after 1k or 2k miles because that's when microscopic metal pieces are most likely to be found in the oil.
I called the dealership and the genius line and they seem to be toeing the BMW recommendation that it's safe to wait until the 10k mark. Any thoughts on this? |

I was thinking the same thing. My car is at right around 2800 miles In the system status, it's telling me that the oil changes due at forty seven hundred or in november comes first

I tried to get a dealer oil change on my 2020 Jaguar but the dealer told me the first oil change was 2 years, then annually after that. It seemed suspect and my car always stank like burned oil. Glad I traded it before there were issues. I would change it early.

if you bought the car, i would change it at 5k miles and pay out of pocket and take it back at 10k for the free one. if its leased, just do it as bmw recommends.

I was reading the manual of my yet-to-be-built 540, and it says there's a break in period with a max rpm recommendation. I wonder how many people observe that? |
