My phone based digital key seems to have "forgotten" that it was assigned to me and was set to "guest" as far as I can tell. I scanned the QR code on the car's screen a couple of times and finally figured out how to get it back to recognizing that it was me and not "guest." Once this was done all my settings and such were back and working perfectly. I hadn't done anything to the MyBMW app so whatever caused this to happen seems to have occurred without any input from me.

Was this some sort of isolated or system-wide software glitch? Had I not been able to retrieve my keyfob, I have no idea what I would have done.

Any insight into what may have caused this?
I had that issue using my phone as my key. I was at work though 50 miles from home. I turned Bluetooth off then back on for my phone and everything worked.
I also always keep the key card in my wallet. You have to get it right on the door handle to work though. To be precise the rear part of the door handle where the marks are.

One strange thing my car does is open the trunk every time I get home at night and walk behind it to plug in. My foot is nowhere near under the car when it does this.

Sheesh - look what’s been hiding in the my glove compartment for 3.5months.

Thanks guys! Are there any additional issues when you’re carrying the card and the phone together that I should be aware of?

You need to activate the key card. In the manual somewhere are instructions.

General information
Key Card availability depends on vehicle equipment and national-market version.
A digital key that has already been paired with
the vehicle is installed on the Key Card. The
digital key must be activated via iDrive.
Before leaving the vehicle, deactivate the Key
Card or take the Key Card with you because
the active Key Card can be used to start the
vehicle. Always take the vehicle key with you to
a service appointment.

is this something unique to the G60?

I've taken my '23 X1 to the BMW dealer a couple of times, but they've never asked for the key card. (gave them the key fob instead) Although the key card is always in my wallet.

Yes, take the vehicle key itself to service visits and not the key card.

Be sure to activate it by placing it on the Wi-Fi charging pad.

I remember last April when I was in the BMW dealer's delivery room. My salesman would not let me leave until he made sure my key card was fully activated and working on my '23 X1. (which I thought was pretty nice)

don't forget the bring the credit card as well. (especially after the vehicle is out of the free maintenance period or warranty) but I suppose a thick stack of C-notes is acceptable to any BMW dealer?

I don’t have any intention of keeping it past the 36 month lease period, so I will have $0 expenses.
