Comfort Access with Digital Key Plus

Anyone having issues with comfort access of digital key when leaving?

Whenever I leave the car with my phone on me, the car would lock first (with one beep), but then immediately beep twice (meaning it unlocks it self in comfort access). I don't know exactly if the car unlocks it self after the twice beeping or not, but I typically use the app to lock it again.

All other keys are not near the vehicle.

Forgot to mention I have passive entry enabled so didn't need to put my phone near the sensor.

Try leaving your phone away from the car and then use just a key fob to test it. Does it still happen exactly the same? Locking and the. Immediately unlocking? If so id try deleting digital key and restarting phone and iDrive and then repairing digital key again and recheck.

It doesn't do that if I just use the key fob. It's definitely something with the digial key plus.

Will try deleting and re-adding. Thanks!

Mine is doing this with the keyfobs and the digital key plus. This is so frustrating. Never had this problem on my 2022 m550i.

I don't know if I should be glad of not that I'm not the only one with this issue

Mine is working great with just the phone; I don't even carry the fob anymore.

I'm having the same experience with my wife's iX. I walk past it (already locked) and it beeps two times when I have my Apple Watch or iPhone on me and walk past it. I only have my profile /Digital Key setup to lock when walking away and disable unlock when approaching. I'm not sure why this is happening, but its been since the latest iDrive update about 1.5 months ago.

Mirrors are still folded in when it beep 2x, so not sure if it is actually unlocking, or just making the beeps??

My app shows the car is still locked after 2 beeps. Mirrors folded too. Can't verify if it's actually locked though lol

Hello. As a side note:

My understanding is that "Passive Entry" (by any name) is an attack vector for NFC keys. I leave it disabled by default, then momentarily enable it for a function such as remote parking, after which I disable it again.

Car is insured, if they steal it, good for them . I’m not going to carry keys and cripple the functions of the car to worry about someone maybe being able to steal my car. Just my 2 cents

Does the car have a location permanent unlock?

For example can the car always be unlocked at my house?

I know my Tesla can do this. Haven’t been able to find anything in the i5.

Thanks.

FYI: On iPhone it is "Passive Entry". On Apple Watch it is "Express Mode".

Can you say more about this trivalent? I just added the parking pro pack which requires that I activate digital key plus to use the remote parking option. I’m kind of a “carry the key with me” guy, and haven’t made the transition to just using my phone yet….what are you disabling on your phone, I’m not quite following.

After setting up your Digital Key Plus, you can open the Apple Wallet app and find the key there. Then, on the top right, you'll find a little Info button that leads you to the settings. There, you can set up what the car does when you approach with your mobile device.

Great - thanks. Do you know use your phone instead of your key? I know, I know - welcome to the 21st century.

Yes I just use my phone now. I don't carry the keys anymore. It's been pretty reliable except for what I described at the beginning of the thread.

Great tip. I use my phone as a key. Trying to get my old fashioned husband to use his. He just gets angry when it doesn’t work the way he should. Now, he can set it to work how he wants.

Hi. Super-busy now, so delayed response:

The direct answer to your question is at the end here, in images with highlights. The light images illustrate the path in the Wallet app. The dark ones, the Watch app.

During the past two days I solved a keys-related problem with my i5. "key" in this usage includes all tokens: fobs, phone, card, and watch.

In summary, after traversing the matrix of all possibilities, I proved that (in my own case)

1. only one of the two fobs was correctly retaining its association with my main profile; the other incorrectly was not.

2. Express Mode in the watch wallet had been masking the incorrect behavior in 1.

3. the same sound played for entering Ready mode is played when opening the door with a key that is not associated with a profile; that is, when a profile has to be selected before Ready mode can be entered.

Conclusions?

Item 1 hopefully is just a software bug and/or a symptom of the one fob's battery voltage being too low.

Item 2 is insidious. No further explanation of this should be needed.

Item 3 is ridiculous, the reuse of such a special indicator for confirmation of two such unrelated states.

Express Mode in the Apple Watch key (or equivalent, if a different watch) is best suited to those who will use their watch as the primary token. Otherwise it can confuse matters AND it poses an unnecessary security risk. But to each their own.

Brief bump of this thread - I’m transitioning to using my phone as a key now, and have noticed the same issue as the OP described - I’ll walk away from my car get a one beep lock, then after a short period hear a double beep. The car appears to still be locked (confirmed by the status in the myBMW app) and when I go back to drive off later, it unlocks, but does not double beep. I think it might be an odd software bug associated with the implementation of the digital key plus, but I’m curious if this ever got clarified?
