One i5 eDrive40, Two Drivers

I have never owned a BMW before and am wondering about how the settings work when there are two drivers.

I will be "my" car, but my wife will also be driving it. Is there a way for the car to know who is driving it so it will apply that person's settings, or do we essentially get one "profile" in the car that we have to share?

I'm hoping that the car can automatically recognize which key fob is being used, or which phone is being used and activate that profile of settings. Am I being too hopeful? LOL

You can setup a profile for each key fob. If both are in the vehicle, it will ask to choose which profile.

I think the core concept is that there can be multiple profiles.

True, each fob can be associated with a different profile. But more generally, each "token" can be.

The token can be a fob, a digital key, or a digital key card; or combinations of those.

In the OP's case, since this i5 will be his car and he will be the primary driver, it might be that his wife will prefer not to carry another fob (assuming she already has one for her main car), and so would rather use a digital key for the i5 (since she is probably already carrying a phone).

Or she just throws it in her purse, along with the 400ish other things in there.

Thanks for the replies folks. That seems to be exactly how I hoped it would work, so we can each have our own settings when we are driving.

The only downside is that I'll have to configure the settings twice (once for each profile), but that is WAY better than having to share a single profile.

In the G60, as in our '22 X3, the car will detect which key the driver is using. The product specialist at the Welt told me the G60 uses NFC to determine this so if both keys are in the car, whichever key is picked up by the driver side NFC sensor will assign that profile. When I drive my wife's X3 with both keys in the car, it nearly always picks up my key if I get in the driver's side and adjusts to my profile. Pretty nice. Only very occasionally it won't do this and I have to select my profile on idrive, but this is very rare. I assume the X3 uses NFC as well, but it may not.
