Shoulder surgery SUCKS!!!

A couple of weeks ago I had the "pleasure" of having rotator cuff and bicep tenodesis surgery. Went for my follow-up today and found out I'll be in the stupid sling for 4 more weeks! I don't think I can handle just being able to look at my BMW in the garage and not be able to drive it FOR SIX WEEKS!

Maybe I'll go sit in the driver's seat and pretend...

Just had to vent a little.....

Two friends recently had shoulder surgery and a thirds is too busy to go to doctor to have his looked at.

Just have to turn adversity into something positive and for the next six-weeks.

Tell him not to wait. I did (over a year) and made it worse. One rotator "tendon" was shredded and the other was torn.

I am getting caught up on my recorded stuff...

The WORST part is trying to sleep in my recliner. The first week and a half wasn't too awfully bad, but now it's no fun at all! I miss my bed...

I screwed up my shoulder in the gym as well. I developed a slap tear in my right shoulder and saw three doctors who all said have the surgery and PT would not work. I tried PT and after 4 months my shoulder was back to normal. Only problem I have now is the fear of lifting heavy again and injuring something else.

Got good news from my physical therapist... Apparently I'm ahead of the curve on range of motion so I don't need to see her again until after I see the Dr. on the 13th. She's a bit perturbed as she wants to start get into "active" exercises but my surgeon instructs passive until 6 weeks out.

I can't wait to get back in bed!!!

Yeah, you spend the first 10 days to 2 weeks sleeping sitting up. Like being in the Twilight Zone with a pain pill once in a while. Nothing like the Dr. described.

Sucks, had bicep tendonesis surgery myself. Do your Physical Therapy stretches everyday. You'll be alright. It took me 6 months to fully recover.

And the hits just keep on coming...

Went in last Sat (the 24th) with a burning chest. About 12 hours later I as having emergency open heart surgery. My left, lower descending artery (the Widow Maker artery) was 100% blocked. My (new) cardiologist said he had no idea how I was still walking around. He said my shoulder surgery should have killed me! This has set back my shoulder rehab quite a bit. The odd thing is open heart recovery is quite a bit faster than the shoulder; a couple of months vs. a year!

If interested, here's my truly miraculous story. I was the real Dead Man Walking:

Damn, that was not an expected update. At least you won't be stressing the shoulder repair while you recover, I guess. Good luck man, heal up

You have a beautiful car waiting for you so it’s going to take more then a sore arm and a little heartburn to slow you down.
Seriously that is a crazy story.

Shoulder problems can really be tough. I've had adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) in both shoulders, fortunately not at the same time. The first go around was a work related injury. And let me tell you, it was extremely painful. My doctor sent me to physical therapy, but the freezing and range of motion continued to get worse. I endured a manipulation, but the total frozen deal was back within a few months. Finally, my orthopedic surgeon performed arthroscopic surgery and voila, I regained 90% range of motion. All in all, I did 140 physical therapies on that shoulder alone. Years later, I did 120+ physical therapy sessions on my other shoulder and somehow avoided surgery.

Take care of your shoulders; you don't want this to happen to you. Repetitive overhead motions can set it off. That's what got me (pulling wire above false ceilings). Tennis and other such repetitive motions can also set it in motion. Takes about a year to recover. Sucks. Really sucks.
