I'm sure the landing pattern at the local airport was just as congested. I understand that in addition to Air Force One, several C-5's travel with the prez transporting security and vehicles.

Honestly it's not much different than any President in recent history. There are a few more Belgium locals in the mix than "normal". But those of us local to DC who have to deal with it all the time know, it is not only a big convoy of cars every trip... But the Secret Service will shut down the streets 30 minutes before the President even passes by. In that respect this is actually scaled back.

Nothing too extraordinary and it's not for just one man. He has a massive entourage for events like this which is who is in those vans.

We don't have video/teleconferencing in this country, so the only way is to fly our president out.

The absurdity is people believing that was the US President's motorcade. The first major clue is the limos with some other country's flags on the front corners. The other major tell is we didn't see "The Beast" Presidential limo that the US President rides in (even overseas).
As someone who has witnessed these motorcades; the other not-so-obvious tell is that motorcade is moving too slowly; and is actually too small! It's truly impressive to see the Secret Service and NYPD perform these motorcades in Manhattan. They clear the way; then send a bunch of vehicles ahead to run through. When President comes through they absolutely do not stop. If you're in the way they're running you over. That's how people get killed in these things occasionally. Here is one of the many Presidential motorcade videos I found on YouTube. It doesn't even show the entire precession, but you can see the line of vehicles going on and on.

If you've ever spent a bit of time in DC, stuff like this is pretty eye opening the first couple times you see it. ;P

If this causes you to complain, I've been in a secure building when POTUS was there for a visit. Our movements were controlled in the building based on where POTUS was and everyone in this building had very high level clearances.

Here's an LA Times traffic advisory. http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-p...htmlstory.html BTW, though I'm no Trump fan, the "absurdity" would be the same with any American president. (Okay, maybe Trump needs a little more security when he travels abroad, due to his rhetoric towards countries he deems "shitholes.") |
