It sure would be nice to see some teeth put into the penalties, especially for aggravated or repeated DUI. As it stands now, it is often a matter of how much you want to spend on a lawyer (or if you are wealthy enough to afford one) to juggle charges and knock it down to s/t less serious. The 'affluenza teen' made headlines, but I bet you could find a few of those cases in every county in the US. I feel like we take a complete pass on any real effective enforcement, probably d/t political or financial pressures - the cops sit outside the crack house to bust dealers, and they are turning medical care on its head to prevent overdoses, but they won't sit outside roadhouses at quitting time or figure out how to put drunk drivers on a real watch list.

Crazy story and nice bike! At least the bike appears relatively unscathed haha. It looks like the Porsche was pushed so hard, it hit the stuff on the other side of the garage and took out the other side wall as well (can even see the light coming through). Is it me or has one of the garage roof support beams collapsed too? He must have been going insanely fast for that to occur. No braking.
In this day and age I never understand how people can get behind the wheel so plastered, but I guess that's just one of the side effects of the drug (bad judgement). |

Yes and on the bike, somehow it avoided 100% of the damage.. you can see the splash of "stuff" all around it, lol. I found that quite funny and odd. Last edited by racingtiger03; 11-03-2017 at 01:51 PM.. |

One of us was going through a bad breakup and he hit the bottle hard. By our rules, all vehicle keys were hidden before the first beer was opened (when we were 15, a drunk driver almost killed our friend so we didn't even trust ourselves to have keys and alcohol) but this time, the idiot decided we weren't nice, the world hated him, all was wrong. My parents cabin is on a private road and there is this barrier you need keys for in the front you leave open when you go in. The guys acted fast, one of them ran to close the gate, two guys held our old and dear friend down, i stole his car battery. Because of our rule of collecting the keys and for him to premeditate enough to bring an extra set with him, we called the cops so they'd fetch him. The next day we took him his car to the police station, made our statements and about five years later our old friend came to us all separately and apologized. It was pretty cool of him and we all love him but after that none of us could really trust him ever again. I have driven after a half a pint over a dinner about three times in my life and i felt awful each time even though i was perfectly sober legally. You can put pretty much anything under the "yeah, but i was really, really drunk" defence except driving. I still have nightmares about what could've happened that night and i hate myself because i still don't give a fuck about what could've happened to my friend. I think of his mom, and the victims he could've had. Anyway. Rather overreact and make sure a drunk doesn't drive than let them try.

I got hit by a drink driver in my 93 Honda Prelude...complete write off. Was the first car I had bought on my own and modified (tastefully) Brand new rims were bent under the car.
I was making a left on an advance green when he blew the red light at about 90kph and used my car instead of his breaks to stop. Lucky there was a cop opposite me that saw the whole thing. I had to go to the hospital for some cuts to my face and hand and my back seizing up. When the cop interviewed the driver he tried to blame the whole thing on me. Guy failed a breathalyzer on scene and was promptly arrested. Cop came to the hospital to check up on me, and admitted that if my car wasn't lowered that I would have probably ended up on my roof from the impact. Damn still miss that 93 Milano Red Honda Prelude SR.

I'm also hoping for public/legal opinions about cell phone and texting to catch up to the DUI. Right now we are circa 1970's attitudes - when DUI was almost expected, considered to be s/t everybody did, but you just didn't go too far or get 'out of control'. Gradually it 'dawns' on people that just b/c you feel like you are OK, doesn't really mean you are. Quite a body count to finally reach that conclusion, so I hope we move faster with the phones (at least the booze was somewhat limited - I see EVERYBODY with a phone to their face these days).

That’s one hell of a story. Although, I don’t understand why your wife decided on a 4 series after the Boxster. I’ve driven variations of the 4 and found it too big and didn’t handle as a BMW should.

Still confused on that one myself, LOL. It's no boxster for sure... but for some reason she wanted a 4 seater this time, and it's fairly tossable (and all of the 4 seat porsches we're way too big for her, or out of budget '911'). About the smallest 4 seater we all fit comfortably in *shrug*. The color is 90% of what drew her to it though.
