So a new Mustang 5.0 V8 (299g/km of CO2) is over 255 and will cost £2000 in its first year. After that £140 per annum. It does not get the £310 supplement because it costs less than £40,000.

I am not being picky or argumentative, I am just trying to get my head round what George Osborne is doing or trying to do and how different reporters are well...reporting it.

A car under £40k will only pay its first year and then £140 per year.

All cars over £40k will pay their first year, then £140 PLUS £310 for 5 years.

It's all laid down on UK Gov site.

Basically a 330d / 345d post 2017 will be £450 a year for 5 years...

The more you read the more it looks a mess. Osborne and previous chancellors tried to promote cleaner cars. Every manufacturer goes cleaner and the chancellor loses the money game and has to get more money somewhere along the line, so he bends the rules. In my view the AA site is very good at showing the different rates over the next 2 years (2014/2015 2015/2016. Here is the link....

As stated, the car in question is £1100 this year and then goes down to £505 (VED Band M) the year before the 2017 change. I wonder how he managed that? Perhaps all his mates have cars with those poor emissions.

diesel is a great option for small vehicles, great mpg. For a luxury sedan, I think it's a mistake, just not as quiet or refined. 3-series and below or in suv. We don't need a million engine options or complicated ones (4 turbos??).

Well, just have a listen to the latest 2 litre diesel fitted to the latest 5 series (520d) released in Europe and the UK. It is nigh on impossible to tell whether it is petrol or diesel when the vehicle passes you as you are walking along the road.

Yes....I agree, 4 turbos appears to be too many.

Several 335d cars here, and seen a few of the X series diesels, and now a growing number of 328d cars.

Sure, not as popular as petrol cars. But how much of that goes to marketing? BMW can only sell what they try to sell.
