The 918 time was set by a C&D journalist not a pro. Give the 918 more than a single lap, a team and a pro driver and I'm guessing the times would be in the 2:30s. On the other side, the z06 in the hands of the same guy from C&D who drove the 918 would likely have been 2:45-2:48 or a long ways off the 918. |

^ Car and Driver spends 3 full days at VIR doing Lightning Lap, not a "single lap".
Here's the Porsche 918's lap. You can see the giant wood crate as it pulls out of the garage (0:22) that says "PCNA 918 Spyder Toolbox". So Porsche North America was there supporting those laps. |

How do you know how many hours GM tested? Exactly how many laps did they run? |

From what I've seen, the re-paved/conditioned VIR course is around 4-seconds a lap faster now, so you can automatically knock 4 seconds off the 918 difference, and throw the journalist drive in the Z06 as well, and I'd bet my house that the Z06 isn't even within 5 seconds of the 918 time.
Honestly, to release such a time on a track that has been repaved, with a more experienced/better driver, is pretty shady and poor form from GM. Not entirely unexpected though. |

This is sad
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...n/viewall.html The worst part is 'add to that the fact the engine overheats after one lap'. Really? Come on |

Here is the verbatim version "Add to that the Z06's tendency to get hot after one lap and the computer's decision to reduce power to compensate, and you have a lap slower than expected.
