What is it about BMW's?

What is it about a BMW that makes them so fun to drive? Before my 135i I had a Mustang GT with the new 5.0, and still my lower powered current bimmer is more fun to me to drive. Last year I had an E36 323is with a very conservative 170 hp, and I have to say I think even that car was more exciting to drive than that 420 hp 5.0. It's not just in the corners where you would obviously think the BMW should be more exciting, but in straight line acceleration as well. So what do you think it is about them? I can't quite put my finger on it.

IMO I think its just that its such a well balanced machine. Im sure there are a lot of others that are just as exciting, but for me this is my 2nd personal BMW and 3rd in our household, and the balance, handling and engagement of the car just feels very very good. Very few daily driver type of cars can replicate that.

For me there's a lot in comparison to other cars I've owned or driven. It's the feeling of the ride; smooth and crisp. Good responsiveness and nice control. The classiness and sportiness of the auto. All that great German engineering under the hood. The timelessness of the BMW brand. By that I mean, no matter how old a BMW is(so long as it's been well cared for), It would be as relevant today as it was the day it came off the assembly line. Hell, if I still had my '82 E21, I'd have no problem at all buzzing around town or going on trips with it. Bimmers are made for people that LOVE to drive.

They had me when I was young. Everything else just seems like selling out.

Good interior ergonomics and rear-wheel drive chassis. In the case of the 135i it also has hydraulic power steering. IMO, the car would be twice as good if it wasn't designed around the run-flat tires.

Car balance (50/50)
Driver seating position (ergonomics)
Buttery smooth motors (particularly the inline 6's)
