Anyone work at a bank? advice please...

Is anyone here a financial/credit analyst or even any AVPs that are employed at a bank? I am working in bank ops in a back office and feel like I am going nowhere. I would like to become a financial/credit analyst, but have very little exp in this field as most of my work has to do with bank operations and less with numbers. Can anyone that works at a bank give me some advice or how you got started? I've got a bit of experience, but not much and feel like it's time to make a move.

Moving from ops is hard but doable. If you want to move toward credit analyst start pursuing your CPA, for financial analyst work on CFA.

There are a lot of people with education/experience looking for jobs + there is not a lot of movement. All banks are limiting new posts and most of openings now are pretty much replacements.

Nobody wants to train new people now so you need to have a decent knowledge to get in. Know the ratios, FS, how things change and why, the effects.. Be able to analyze a company and so on.

Good luck.

Fixed: All back office/non client facing posts suck. You are pretty much a cost/expense. And all costs need to be eventually reduced.

You want to have an interesting position move to client facing role or learn how to make money. Income generation positions are usually more fun/challenging/rewarding.

May I ask where you are located? Finance is pretty concentrated in a handful of places around the US.
at least 3 years. Very few people pass all 3 levels on their first try. Level 1 is offered twice a year and level 2 and 3 are offered only once a year. Getting your charter has become significantly harder over the past 5 years.
