So I'm stationed in Fort Carson with the US Army and living off post in Colorado Springs. My motorcycle was parked and locked in my apartment complex and around 9pm last night someone jammed a screw driver into the ignition and rolled the bike away in an attempt to start it elsewhere. Well I called the cops and they didn't even send a unit out. Police report over the phone? WTF? Really? Today, pissed off at the world, I take my dogs for a walk to try to blow off some steam. What do I see at the back corner of the apartment complex? A blue R6 sitting on its side! I go over to look at it and guess what, its MINE. Call up the cops and cancel the stolen bike report and get told "good job." If anyone has any info on this guy or I find a guy wearing my still missing Yamaha socks that where on the brake resivours there wont be enough of a body to identify.

bike stolen, police say FU. I find bike, police say good job.

I called the apartment complex today to tell them and they said "oh well... anything else you need?" Really? Show me a little sympathy. I got it back without the police's help and then the apartment complex told me oh well...
It was chained and locked to a pole on my back patio and they made me move it to the parking lot because "we don't allow motorcycles on the sidewalk." So I had to unchain my bike, but I still locked the ignition, covered it, and put a brake disk lock on the bike. The guy stole my cover (its gone), and cut my brake disk lock off... but he couldn't figure out the ignition. At least I got it back
And to hell with the apartment complex, the bike is living in my dining room until my lease expires in January.

Dude, you live off Airport and Murray! You'll be lucky if this is the only incident you have during your stay there. Colorado Springs isn't a high crime city, however there are a few areas of town that you couldn't pay me to live in, and you're in one of them.

We are moving when the lease expires in Jan. I will be on the other side of town near Cheyenne Meadows and 115 and Academy. Closer to post and in a gated community and I get a garage. Hopefully this shit won't happen again...

Absolutely over priced apartments. These apartments are horribly managed, and as far as maintenence is concerned, you mine as well just not even ask for it. They do a horrible job, and use cheap fixes. The complex across the way is even worse, the kind of stuff you see on COPS. Shootings, and yelling all hours of the night are the norm. And we can't forget about the hordes of underpriveleged minority children who steal, throw rocks, and break windows. They climb the fence and terrorize the tennants here. The men over there like their beer like they like their violence, domestic. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

How did he manage to cut the disk brake lock? I bought one for about 70 bucks that has a built in tilt and shock alarm.

I had an alarm on my bike but it was giving tons of battery issues.

Im guessing with a pair of bolt cutters. It was a fairly tough Bull Dog lock but it wasnt anything fancy with an alarm and tilt sensor...

Get an alarm with a pager function. It's not foolproof, but gives some piece of mind. Plus they distinguish between types of alarms (i.e. you can tell whether it was just bumped vs. actually fell over or is being moved).

Is there a specific spot in the parking lot that you know you can always park in? (i.e. one of those half-spots that only a motorcycle can slide into) You can throw a chain through a cement block or two and chain it to that...

Really though, the answer is a low insurance deductible. And try to get a garage at your new place.

The alarm is a good idea but if they want it bad enough they will get it. The only motorcycle spot is across the complex. Until I move the bike will live in my dining room and if the apartment has a problem with that they can suck it.

You can even disable the speaker if you want, the alarm is just to notify you (if you are home) that it is being stolen so you can go outside and check on it I used to have to park my R6 outside many years ago and it gave me some peace of mind. It also got me a nice insurance check from a lady who backed into it and knocked it over... she said she was just about to leave a note, but we all know how that goes...

And I know plenty of people who do the bike in the apt complex thing... but it's not the apt complex you have to worry about so much as the fire department; you can't bring a vehicle full of gas and oil into your home (your apartment is not a garage).

In my life I've had 2 bikes stolen, one right at a client's site in broad daylight and the other right out of my garage(leave it open alot), I neded u getting a good brake lock with alarm.

As faras the apartment complex goes, don;t even worry about it, you're out of there in 6 to 8 weeks right so if they say something just agree and never do it. They might with hold your deposit if they see it but keep it on the DL and you'll be fine.

Get a better brake lock and see if your insurance offers any rebates with it.

I used a disc brake lock and a cover with a heavy wire running around the bottom. That was also locked, although a razor knife would defeat that easily enough. It kept the kids off it, though. I also had an alarm, but the thing was so sensitive that it would go off on windy days.
