M-Sport vs. Non M-Sport
Does anybody else think here that the non M-Sport looks better in some pictures? Or is it just me?
I think the back may look better without all the high gloss black. The front is a tie to me. Maybe a slight edge to the M-Sport, even though it has a lot of high gloss black, but it does look more aggressive (as it should). I do think the steering wheel looks better in the M-Sport. And it also has shadow line trim around the windows, which I prefer. On previous models I’ve also thought the M-Sport looked way better than the standard. This time around I’m not so sure. |

My thoughts go in the same direction. I configured this here earlier.

not only looks, but also driving dynamics. I remember on i4 m-sport is a lot sharper and much more what you expect from a BMW. I think you may need to test drive to feel the difference.

The M Sport suspension was just a little too stiff for me on the G30 540 I test drove. Ended up with the M550 which with the adaptive suspension in Comfort mode was pretty much the same as the non-M Sport suspension.
My question is… since the G60 comes with non-RFT do you think M Sport might be a little softer and non M Sport just too soft and floaty? |

edit... don't remember press release discussing damper technology used in the G60, but with the G20 3er they use something like 2-stage dampers that allow more compression early for smooth ride then stiffen up under additional pressure to improve handling. The G60 may be making use of similar dampers.

In Germany we can also choose the standard suspension on the G60 with the Sport package. Fortunately.

That’s great news that the non RFT experience was positive… I’m going to have to test drive a lot next year.
But just in case wonder if US dealers will also let you keep the standard suspension while coding the M Sport look… |

Unfortunately, in Canada, the 2024 5 series only comes in M-Sport. The non M-Sport is not available. |

Hey guys. Seems like almost everyone's going for the M-Sport look, but I'm still quite a novice when it comes to the suspension between the two. Is the 704 msport suspension just slightly stiffer one than the non M-sport one? I also live in Boston with a ton of potholes and less maintained roads, so most likely I'll just stick with the 19in wheels. I like the cleaner look of the non-msport, but I don't like the standard wheels. Planning to lease an 540i.

I almost would pick the M-Sport just to avoid those terrible bumper things. |

I think the front bumper of the non-Sport version looks better... so I ended up skipping the M Sport. Although, I'm now having second thoughts, since I ended up option for sapphire black....

Agree went M Sport for the slightly firmer suspension, better wheel choices, the exterior bits and don’t forget you have the M Sport, three spoke streering wheel inside too!

Much of this talk about stiffness of the 704 suspension would be obviated if, like so many less expensive cars, the 540i had an adaptive suspension option. When I got my 2019 540iMsport I immediately regretted not going for the (rather inexpensive) adaptive setup. Promised myself I’d never make that mistake again.

I preordered my i5 so I never test drove it or comparative models. I did read the BMW press release and felt satisfied an i5 eDr40 with M Sport would be just fine and went with the 20” wheels with all season tires. It would be interesting to know the technical differences.
It is a very comfortable car. I drive it back to back sometimes with a new and old M3 and it is cushy. The i5s also have rear-axle air suspension. I recommend a test drive though so the vehicle meets your requirements. https://www.bmwusanews.com/newsrelea...d=4162&mid=838 |

Please forgive my ignorance but does the M Sport option on a 540ix come with a stiffer baseline suspension than the non M Sport? I thought it had only esthetic differences. Do both have settings for Sport, Comfort, Eco etc? Does selecting Comfort on either one ultimately result in the same ride?

That's how I feel as well. At first, I didn't like the M Sport look, but it has grown on me now and I plan to get an M Sport and M Sport Pro on an eDrive40 so all the M Sport trim, brakes etc. are included.

I tried both steering wheels during test drives and preferred the look and feel of the M Sport wheel more. The standard wheel is ok too, but doesn't look as high end to me.

Ok....I now embarrassingly realize the 2024 540ix I ordered and that is in production doesn't have adaptive suspension. I wrongly assumed it would at this price. On top of that, I ordered M Sport. Coming from a 2021 540ix that I always drive in the comfort setting to the new car with 19 inch NRF all season tires, how different will the ride be?...
I appreciate your time. Thanks. |
