Picking up new M60 - first drive will be 220 miles
Hi. So I'm picking up my new i5 M60 in a week from a dealer that is 220 miles from my house. It will be predominantly interstate driving with temps in the 50s to low 60s. For the last 100 miles of this trip, recharge options are virtually none until I get very close to home.
I have seen range indications all over the place with this car. I'll have it on Eco mode but it will be interstate cruising with no regeneration. I should be good, right? ![]() Thanks! |

You should be good. Just don't drive too fast. Temp also plays a role so hopefully it's not cold.
For reference last week I did a 150 mile drive and used around 75% of battery. It was cold and I was driving 85 mpg on avg. Last edited by wagonallterrain; 11-14-2023 at 08:30 PM.. |

Cool - thanks. I hope it's not that close actually, but it's going to an interesting first range test.

This M60 range test (Korean) ended up with ~320mi range (264mi driven, 17% remaining charge).
It was on Efficiency mode, mostly on highway doing 63mph. Temp was 70 degrees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjk9naQwsqI |

Monitor as you go, but before the last charger is available at the 100 mile mark, top it off then. Hopefully it's a DC fast charger and you'll only need 15 minutes or so.

Picked up the car today - it was on a full charge at the dealer. When I turned it on, range said 254 miles. But after about 30 minutes of doing all of the various dealer orientation stuff, it was down to 235 for whatever reason. With a 220 mile trip I was a bit nervous - there really aren’t any good DC options on this trip (unless you have a Tesla).
But I headed out and after a while, it was obvious that the miles on my navigation were clicking off way quicker than the miles on the the range estimate. After about halfway I was confident it wasn’t going to be an issue. I ended up getting into town with 42 miles of range left and detoured for dinner, probably about a five mile detour in total. And got to the house with 39 miles left on the range estimate. So rough calculation here is approx 267 miles on this charge, but I was gaining efficiency over the estimate so even the 267 could have gone a few more. This was mostly interstate/motorway driving at approx 80 mph - using the assisted cruise control (that was great) - in efficient mode. Temp was 55 F degrees (13 C). I was mindful not to do any big acceleration draws on the battery, but otherwise normal driving. Last edited by superchuck500; 11-25-2023 at 08:01 PM.. |
