american airlines platinum challenge

i've been on flyertalk for a while and finally jumped for the platinum challenge on american. dfw is my home airport, so AA's platinum challenge is a quick way to elite status from home. i've been wanting to do some traveling for a while now, so this the perfect way to do some holiday traveling and fly comfortably for the next year+ on AA.

i'm starting mine on nov. 1. i'll be complete by dec. 6. headed to milan in a couple weeks, then london for my birthday week. eurostar from london to paris on my birthday, which falls on a saturday, then back to london for a night before i fly out on monday. NYC for christmas.

anyone ever do the platinum challenge 'round here?

I personally haven't done it, but I told a friend how to go about it after reading up on it a year or so ago. He flies to China occasionally for work and signed up for it right before he went and was able to get it with just the one trip. Not sure if he did platinum though, perhaps it was just gold. I can't remember the mileage requirements.

Anyway, it worked for him...

I've done the plat challenge back when it was free

Most important thing with the gold/plat challenge is that you need elite qualifying points accrued instead of miles to complete the challenge. So you need find out what is your purchasing fare class? is it 1 mile:1 point instead of 1 : 0.5 as with most cheap fares.

yea that's why i'm taking two international trips. booked two trips in deep discounted coach. was much cheaper than one trip in a fare class that yields 1 EQP per EQM, plus i get to go to 2 places.

just want to do one night in france. the french are snotty enough towards americans. last time i went for a week, i was ready to leave days early just because of that. i'll be staying on the champs-elysees though.

haven't done the challenge, but have platinum status. the benefits are nice, but not overwhelming. since a majority of flights i take are international, i don't get many class upgrades. airport lounges are a nice perk though. as are priority check-in, security, and baggage.

almost forgot about this thread...will be completing the challenge tomorrow on the way to london. already been to milan and florida, taking the current fling to london and paris, thinking about taking the girl i met at the gucci store to costa rica on the 10th, and new york at the end of the month. it's going to be a rough month.
