New tires already?

Hello friends,

I just had my 2024 530i xdrive in for maintenance and they are suggesting all new tires. The rear tires are 2mm from the wear indicator and the front tires are 0mm from the wear indicator. How is this possible with only 16k miles with only 1 year of ownership?

Anyone else experiencing this?

Please keep in mind that Summer tires are a lot softer and stickier than All-Season tires. But the trade-off is in durability. That's why the car is rated at 155 MPH with Summer/ Performance tires, but limited to 130 MPH with All-Season tires. The rubber in All-Season tires is designed not to harden in below freezing temperatures, allowing the same traction year round. It is more durable, which is why they usually come with higher treadwear warranty (You will never see Summer tires with a 55,000 mi warranty). But it is stiffer and therefore they are only rated for 131MPH.

So far your 16,000 miles and needing new tires after a year is about average from what I have read here in this Forum over the past year owners with Summer Tires.

If you have summer tires and enjoy spirited driving than its not unusual. Same thing happened to me with various sport cars which are speed with summer rubber. From what am told the really hot days kill your tires. If its brutally hot its like you are leaving black rubber as you drive. Apparently you need all season tires, an alternate beater car when its hot or move north.

Check out manufacturer warranty for mileage. They will pro rate. I did this on a past Tesla, and saved about 50% on replacements. Although was a huge PIA to go to an authorized dealer.
