Hi, i have 2 questions: we are driving from Vegas to Yosemite in mid April. I have hired a "large SUV".

Do we go via California and stay at Yosemite West (a few airbnbs there), or go via Tioga Rd (is this the death valley? will it be snowed and closed?)

And can you do the drive in one day or should we stop overnight (where)?

Tioga usually doesn't open until late May at the earliest.

Airbnb host says I need to bring snow chains into the park in mid April. Can someone confirm that?

Mid way down tire chains are subject to being mandatory at any time due to prevailing conditions.
