Interior Mods
Has anyone explored the possibility of upgrading the interior e.g. replacing the scratchier plastics (window switches), adding felt liner to the door pockets, adding the clarity glass switchgear, etc.
Curious to see if the interior materials, switches, etc. on the G70 or i20 could be used on the G60. Please post pictures if anyone has upgraded the interior of their G60! |

Beyond that I haven’t seen any interior modification, other than someone who made a plastic overlay for the center console to make it longer. It was….interesting, and decidedly home crafted. It would be nice if BMW offered galvanized brushed aluminum options for the window controls. If you look at the 3 series configurator on the M340 for MY25 you can see what I mean. If it was a $100 option for the G60 I would have ordered it. Last edited by ToddRGuy; 10-31-2024 at 12:22 PM.. |

The plastic in that area feels a bit “thin”, not so much that it’s gonna break, but the texture of the pad is a really odd choice, I agree. That might be what people are honing in on. My current Audi’s similar part feels more premium, but I’m not sure if that’s because it’s not textured and has better tactile feel. I’d be really curious to know if this part shape is shared across designs for cost, and about the potential for a swap. Getting it out of there hopefully would not come with any unexpected surprises. |

Because we've got both a G30 and G60 I am consistently reminded of the rubbish plastics in the G60 vs the G30 . Hence why I'm hopeful that someone has explored the possibility of swapping it out for parts from the G70 or I20

I wasn’t a fan of all of that surround chrome on everything in the G30. The whole instrument cluster and dash arrangement looked dated, but I think that’s the natural course of progression as cars reach end-of-generation. Audi’s A6 interior looked much more fresh. I think BMW could have been more selective in the choices of materials that the driver has continuous contact with. Primarily things like door insert molding, center console materials, paddle shifters and switch cover overlays. What’s odd is that upgrading the choices of tactile materials likely only increases factory production cost by small margins. But it changes perception significantly. They could have done this and not altered the overarching design at all. I personally don’t care about massaging seats, map pockets, soft close doors, or physical buttons. I’m sure they looked at the number of orders for those things vs the cost to include them in manufacturing and said, you know this assembly complexity isn’t profitable given the low orders. In addition to changes in tactile surfaces, the one thing I wish they would have given people a choice about was the plastic center console overlay. Piano black, while popular with designers, is going to be a nightmare for my OCD detailing to handle. Even an upgrade option to change from piano black to a matte black metal would have been a better choice. |

I agree. My mercedes has brushed stainless steel in the dash trim. It has a coating so it doesn't get fingerprints either.

It’s been a few months since I drove a G60 so can’t remember if the entire door bin is unlined? In the G30 it’s only lined on the side to reduce rattling, still plastic on the bottom. Adhesive-backed black felt from Michael’s would easily fix that but why should that be necessary on a $70-80k car.

Regarding the PPF, I do know that XPEL makes a precut kit specifically for the center console and potential scratch areas on the dash and screens. |

But of course, my friend! This takes you to the general landing for entering the Region information to display the DIY kits. Ignore the “find an installer” button as that’s click-bait.
https://www.xpel.com/paint-protection-kits There are two choices available. One is for “Ultimate Plus” and the other is for “ Ultimate Plus XUPL”. The XUPL is the newest PPF which I believe is thicker. I would need to do a bit more reading but I’m not sure if the thicker (10mm vs 8.5mm) one would be a good choice on interiors. Maybe for a truck interior used in high impact zones. One of the descriptions I read about XUPL said: Ultimate Plus XUPL is thicker than the original Ultimate Plus film (10 mil thickness vs. 8.5 mil), making it the ideal choice for vehicles used in industrial settings or other harsh conditions, or for sections of your vehicle that are more susceptible to damage, like for front bumpers. I would need some assurances of what the thicker material would look like cosmetically on an interior piano black finish. Might be overkill for a non commercial vehicle. Has anyone ever installed internal PPF? I'm interested in the internal kit, but I'm afraid I'd mess it up and it would look like those tinted windows that people try to do themselves. I wonder how easy it is to do.

Same. I have to wait 90 days before I re-ceramic my car. Since I used an XPel dealer, I might just have them do it.

The area immediately to the right of the cutout that covers the displays, looks like it’s a template that goes below the interaction bar on the trim piece and spans the vehicle. I can see this working for the aluminum trim or gloss oak; the other trims are more wood-like. I have no idea if they’re textured but it seems as if putting PPF over something matte would be very odd looking. |

I wish the HK speaker grills in the front were silver/grey like the back ones.
But I guess they didn’t want us feeling like we had the upgraded B&Ws….. |

I wanted the bronze speaker grilles. I have no idea what color they are in the rear. I thought they matched. Now I have to go and look.
Both are bronze. |

Can you wrap the piano black console and still have the buttons work?
