I believe they have a separate paint booth where the individual/special colors are mixed/painted. The cost reflects whether it is a color on hand, or if they have to create one for you. Not sure if it's still robots painting or if they do it by hand.

The BMW website says it is either of two cities where individual colors are applied. It is not at the assembly factory.

It's a nice colour, but i think the best blue colour i've seen a BMW in is Atlantis Blue, my mate had an M3 in that colour a few years ago, it was jaw dropping in the flesh!

I gave up on an individual color as the real world pictures do not match the bmw individualizer website colors.

It's so interesting, because paint color is so subjective to lighting. I really don't think that BMW (or any manufacturer) does a great job of simulating what a color will actually look like when you're standing in front of it.

The color choice was the hardest part of my selection process, as I had it narrowed down to Phytonic Blue, Tanzanite and Carbon Black. And each subjectively looked different based on lighting.

Yep. So we are ordering boring safe Black Sapphire.

I do miss Jet Black. Not only was it free but it was like piano black - glossy and truly black.

Too bad there are not more colors out there on the lots to look at. I had the same problem when I was shopping. There were only a handful of colors on the lots, so I had to rely on the web site, photos and online videos to make a pick.
