I wonder why Tesla shares are so high, given their poor history of earnings per share but then I remember that there's so many naive people infatuated with Musk, the stock market artificially raised the price.

Because their stock price was being pumped by "private investors" which was really governments. They did this to make EV appear more popular than they were -
They spammed social media with favorable press. Literally overnight, outlets that didn't know blinker fluid from muffler bearings were reviewing "cars" starting with "Tesla"
Drag racing videos where all over the internet of "Teslas caught racing other cars"
Perfectly timed Videos were showing how FSD were "saving lives" We had article after article about how Tesla was 10 years ahead of everyone in development, and "tech" (another word for "screen")
Tax credits (and more tax credits) to make it appear that the demand for EVs was organic and accelerating. It was always propaganda.
