Ha….OK, let me pull a slightly geek move here. We’ve got some real-world data to look at - taking the Range and %SOC we can work out what everyone’s implied 100% range would be. It’s also instructive to consider what local conditions exist by looking at each users location - some have noted specific temperatures. If you calculate it out, this is what we get - a range of temps reportedly spanning 80F and from 146 to 306miles. Hmmm, so what do we say the “Range” is for this vehicle?
On the second table I took the data from a neat model that ArenaEV built for the M60 based upon their testing that tries to describe range as a function first of temperature (I put in 60mph as constant speed) and then varied speed held at 40F. Again, the message is clear - range varies HUGELY as a function of speed and temperature. I don’t fully know the algorithm that they’ve used, but it does somewhat line up with the user data here.
As an aside, the 40F/60mph is pretty close to my experience which suggests that this model isn’t crazy. My January data, I’m averaging 3.3mi/kWh - with 81.2kWh usable battery capacity that gives me a range of 268miles. Importantly power consumption and distance are measured values, which is why I’ve started focus more on %SOC and power consumption rate as the things I track now.
