TLDR: I’ve compared veganza and merino leather for i5 side by side. The softness of merino leather is no better than veganza.
Background: I wanted to get the merino leather upgrade but I was debating whether that’s worth losing the luxury seat package. So I went to my local BMW dealership to A/B test the two materials. To my surprise, there’s no perceivable difference in the softness between the two materials. The only difference that may exist is the surface smoothness that I don’t think anyone would care. My biggest disappointment for the merino leather is that doesn’t even feel as luxury (soft) as the Napa leather on my 2018 Volvo XC60.
Give 1) the ugly grey accent on the merino seat and 2) you lose the luxury seat package, I wouldn’t get it even if it’s free.
