F40 at Algar
For those who haven't seen one in the flesh they have a red one in the front window. Stopped when I passed this morning to check it out. Didn't drive it bc it would make missing ours so much worse. What an amazing piece of machinery.

I've done a 180 on this. I used to be the world's biggest F40 fanboy, but truth is, F40s are primitive ass cars with an exceptionally inflated value. For the money I'd really rather have 2 458s or a Robinson R44.

While I agree in certain respects, you can never forget your first love. Was my intro into the Italians. And there's something to be said for a raw experience in a vehicle.

Primitive is why they're so popular. No flappy paddle gearbox or ESC, PDQPiR2 blah, blah, blah taking over for the driving duties.
Pure driving experience that is not hindered by anything.

There is definitely something to be said for the older stuff where a key piece of performance defining equipment is the driver. A lot of modem high performance cars are "point and shoot" to use the camera analogy, and something is lost there. I don't think many of us make a living based on our lap times, I'd rather have something more engaging and fun and sacrifice a few tenths at the track. At that level I'm not looking for something that will entirely eliminate me from the equation.

Ha sorry. I'm in and out of there pretty often but was in a rush that day. Was late for an appointment and I flew by, saw it in the window and stopped in real quick.

Been lucky enough to see quite a few F40s and even had a nosy round a pair of F40 LMs at silverstone. Such a nice car.
There's something about the older basic ferraris that is special. My uncle has a 308 GTS. It's not quick and only has circa 240bhp but it feels so much quicker and puts such a big smile on your face.

Love the F40.. I've seen a few around. I really like the proportions, looks like a big go kart.
At the Ferrari event in Beverly Hills. Some extra pics for good measure.

LOL
"For the money, I'd rather have..." - Said no one who actually owns an F40, about anything.

Duh, because if you're aware you own an F40 (some owners won't be, lol) and haven't sold it, you obviously love the car and think it's worth owning. And few of the owners are so rich as to not care how they spend that kind of money.

My favorite car of all time since I was 13. Was lucky enough to see one up close and in person a couple of years ago. For me, it's the best Ferrari ever.

I've seen two in the flesh... err... carbon. Both on opposite ends of the spectrum as one was at the Ferrari factory in Italy and looked like it had been beaten to a pulp while the other was in a local speed shop and was in better-than-showroom condition (w/ 4200 miles, brand new factory seats, etc).

This is one case when "never meet your heroes" does not apply.

If someone can drive me around a block in this, my life (in terms of experiencing cars) are as good as achieved. Never been a fan of Ferrari but this is a different story.

One of the very few cars from that era that I like, and it's one of my all time favorites. If you find yourself over there again and it's still on the floor, take some pics for us!

Will try and get over there at some point. That's one car I could stare at all day. Not a classic beauty compared to some of the other cars I'd put in my top 10 from that perspective, but there's just something about it that appeals to me.
I am now obsessed with driving one again, it has been quite a while. If my powerball tickets hit I know where the first $1.5M is going.

Are prices really that high for these? I would think the 288 GTO and F50 prices would be higher as they were both much more rare.

288's look like Magnum PI's shitbox 308 and F50's look like lowered, convertible Ford F150 pickups.
I have a soft spot for 288's, but the F40 will almost certainly always be more expensive.
